The Weeknd lands straight in at Number 1 on this week's Official Trending Chart with his new single Starboy.

The Canadian singer-songwriter's collaboration with Daft Punk enters straight at the top of the list of the songs trending in the UK this week, based on movement up the Official Singles Chart (see below for full methordology).

Starboy, which trails his new album of the same name out in November, arrives after both acts teased the possibility of a duet earlier this year. The track is on course to make a big splash on the Official Singles Chart, currently at Number 3 in the latest sales flash

Also making a big impact this week is Teddy Mac aka The Songaminute Man. The 80-year-old former Butlin's Redcoat rose to internet fame recently as the Alzheimer's sufferer who had landed a record deal after his son Simon posted videos of his father singing during their very own Carpool Karaoke on YouTube.

His single, You Make Me Feel So Young, was released last week and is heading for this week’s Top 20 on the Official Chart, currently at 14. Royalties from the track, which was recorded at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios in London, will go to the Alzheimer’s Society and the McDermott family.

Elsewhere, Shawn Mendes' Mercy makes a big entry  this week following the release of his second album Illuminate this week, Rag'n'Bone Man makes an appearance with Human after his show-stopping performance on BBC's Later With Jools Holland, and the return of Aston Merrygold is making waves; his latest track I Ain't Missing You completes this week's Official Trending Chart Top 20.

About the Official Trending Chart

The Official Trending Chart is a brand new chart launched for 2016 to highlight the hottest new tracks beginning to make an impact in the UK every week.

The Top 20 rundown, published on OfficialCharts.com every Tuesday, based on the first four days’ sales of each chart week, is designed to highlight emerging hits as they begin to scale the Official Charts and build buzz.

The Official Trending Chart ranks titles which are showing week-on-week chart growth, and is the only “new music” chart to reflect audio track sales and streams comprehensively across all services.

Devised by the Official Charts Company in close consultation with labels, retailers and media, the chart since launch has already highlighted emerging hits such as Number 1 singles Mike Posner’s I Took A Pill In Ibiza and Drake's One Dance.

The chart is designed to help highlight hit singles in their early stages of their growth, in the light of the shift in release strategies of record labels over the past six months. Under “On Air On Sale”, labels have started to release new music for consumers to buy or stream on the same day as those tracks are released to media (including radio stations and TV).
