The Official biggest selling vinyl albums and singles of 2017 so far

Ed Sheeran finds himself alongside classics from Amy Winehouse, David Bowie and more.

A new generation of fans is falling in love with the vintage black plastic, but leading the way as the most popular vinyl album of the year so far is a very up-to-date release.

Ed Sheeran’s third record ÷, already the biggest artist album of the year so far, has sold 35,000 copies on vinyl alone since its March release.

The second most popular vinyl title of the year so far is the soundtrack to the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie – Awesome Mix 1, while very close behind is the reissue of The Beatles' classic Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Radiohead's anniversary reissue of classic album OK Computer has thrilled vinyl fans enough to make it as fourth biggest seller, while Rag’n’Bone Man has found an audience on vinyl too, as his debut Human is at 5.

40 years on from its original release, fresh copies of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours are still finding their way onto Britain's turntables (6), while six years after her death, Amy Winehouses’s popularity shows no sign of waning – her second album Back to Black is up in seventh.

David Bowie claims four titles in the Top 40, with the highest, Legacy, coming in 10th on our rundown, and while classic releases from artists like Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Nirvana and Oasis make their presence felt, 2017 is well represented too.

Royal Blood’s How Did We Get So Dark (16) Mercury-nominated The xx’s I See You (18), Humanz from Gorillaz (23), Queens of the Stone Age's Villains (27) and Kasabian's For Crying Out Loud (31) are just a few of this year’s new music releases making the vinyl Top 40.

Over on the vinyl singles, David Bowie dominates the Top 10, with No Plan leading the way so far this year, followed by Sound and Vision (6) and Be My Wife (7). Another classic act, The Smiths, score two slots with The Queen Is Dead (2) and The Boy with the Thorn in his Side (5).

It’s not just reissues making an impact; there are plenty of fresh tracks from 2017 finding fans on vinyl. Liam Gallagher's first solo single proper, Wall of Glass, leads the charge as third best seller so far, and Arcade Fire’s Everything Now breaks the Top 10 at Number 8.
