The Desolation Of Smaug knocks Frozen off Number 1

The second instalment of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy has bumped Disney’s Frozen from the top of the Official Video Chart.

The second instalment of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy has bumped Disney’s Frozen from the top of the Official Video Chart.

The Hobbit - The Desolation Of Smaug was the biggest selling DVD and Blu-ray title in the UK last week, and has gone straight in at Number 1 on the Official Video Chart.

The second instalment of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy has knocked Disney’s Frozen from the top of the Official Video Chart. It has also topped the Official DVD and Official Blu-ray format charts, and is Number 1 on the Official Film On Video genre chart, too.

The Desolation Of Smaug sold 674,000 copies during its first week on sale, and is already the third biggest selling video title of 2014 so far. It now sits behind The Hunger Games – Catching Fire (697,000 sales to date) and Frozen (1.2 million sales to date).

Frozen slides to Number 2 on this week’s Official Video Chart Top 40, but remains at Number 1 on the Official Children’s Video genre charts.

The Hunger Games – Catching Fire slides one place to Number 3, Dame Judi Dench and Steve Coogan’s Philomena holds firm at Number 4, while Gravity completes this week’s Official Video Chart Top 5, climbing one place to Number 5.
