T in the Park will not take place in 2017: "We now need to take stock and take a year out"

On-site restrictions force the festival organisers not to host the iconic festival next year.

T in the Park has been cancelled for 2017.

Issues with planning permission have forced festival organisers to take a break and postpone the popular Scottish festival, a mammoth music event that has been running for nearly 25 years.

T in the Park organisers moved locations starting with the 2015 event, relocating from Balado, Kinross-shire to Strathallan Castle in Lanarkshire. Health and safety executives called for the festival to move due to an oil pipe network running below the Balado site, but more problem occured when T found its new home.

The 2015 and 2016 festivals almost did not go ahead due to "an unregistered, but protected in law, osprey's nest" that was present on the site. Restrictions to protecting these animals is one of the reasons why 2017's proposed three days of entertainment will not happening.

An official statement reads: "We were informed by Scottish Government Ministers that we would have to apply for full Planning Permission due to the presence of an unregistered, but protected in law, osprey's nest. The constraints – logistically and financially - that the resulting planning conditions put upon us are simply not workable.

"Ultimately we’re not in control of the overall site layout and the continued restrictions means that the negative impact on our fans and the limitations placed on their experience is too great." Read the festival's full statement here.

2016's festival was headlined by The Stone Roses, Calvin Harris and Red Hot Chili Peppers, with other acts performing including Disclosure, Bastille, Chase & Status, The 1975 and Major Lazer.
