Rising stars The Modern Strangers release wistful, summer-drenched new single She's So Cold - Premiere

Think M83 meets MGMT with a hint of disco thrown in.

The Modern Strangers have an ear for what makes great music for the charts - and it's been scientifically proven.

The electropop band, fronted by brothers Max and Archie Davenport, featured by accident in a BBC documentary last year called The Secret Science Of Pop, in which a computer algorithm selected their song Margarita as the most chart friendly from a long list of tracks by BBC Introducing acts. So there you go.

Excitingly, it looks like Margarita and previous singles Hot Rain, Coco Hello and Vanilla were merely to test the waters - the group are releasing the title track from their debut EP proper, called She's So Cold, this week.

As they explain below, to describe She's So Cold as wistful is a bit of an understatement, but its electronic-drenched production and hazy vocal manages to add a generous layer of uplifting warmth to it. Think M83 meets MGMT with a hint of disco thrown in.

"We wrote this song last summer in our home studio," they said. "It was one of those ones we were immediately excited about. When writing it, we wanted to try something a bit bigger and more epic. She's So Cold is about a relationship coming to an end, looking back on better times and realising how cold someone you thought you knew can get."

Listen to She's So Cold, premiered below:

The Modern Strangers are gearing up for another summer of festival performances (they played 17 last year including Radio 1's Big Weekend) - so far they're confirmed for Liverpool's Sound City on May 5 and The Great Escape In Brighton on May 18.

She's So Cold is available to stream and download everywhere from February 23. The band play London's Moth Club on February 27 as part of the NME Awards tour.
