Madonna announces new album Madame X

Madonna's 14th studio album is expected to be released this summer.

Madonna has confirmed the title of her new album, called Madame X.

The superstar announced the record with a new video clip, which sees her take on several characters.

"I decided to call my record Madame X... a secret agent travelling around the world, changing identity, fighting for freedom, and bringing light to dark places.

"Madame X is a dancer, a professor, a head of state, a housekeeper, an equestrian, a prisoner, a student, a mother a child, a teacher, a nun, a sinner, a saint a whore and a spy."

A piano-driven ballad plays in the intro to the clip, featuring the lyrics: “The thing that hurt the most was that I wasn’t lost.”

UPDATE (15/04/2019): The album's lead single, called Medellin, was released on April 17. It's a collaboration with Colombian reggaeton star Maluma. When she revealed the single, Madonna also confirmed the album's release date of June 14.

Madonna was recently announced as the half-time performer at this year's Eurovision Song Content final on May 18. It has been confirmed she will perform a brand new song as well as one of her classic tracks.

Madame X is Madonna's 14th studio album, following 2015's Rebel Heart. See where all of Madonna's singles and albums reached on the Official UK Chart here.

If youre only listening to radio versions of Madonna, you're totally missing her forte. It's in the remix. Its ALWAYS been in the remix.

She is risking having no chart placing, her first week is the only real impact her single will have on the charts. A Wednesday release day has all but killed that chance.

This certainly looks something very different and new, will be very interesting to see what it pans out to be. There is never lack of any trying on madonna's part and throughout her career has never failed to do different things. Last few albums haven't made that much of an impact and singles have lessened in popularity not so much quality though. Could this finally lead madonna back into younger generation interest?

Maybe if you'd listened to MDNA (instead of MDMA), you might have had a more positive opinion of it ;-)

I think there are always good songs on all Madonna albums, that's why I keep buying her records. "Music" for me was his worst and maybe "American Life" and "True Blue" her absolute best as far as I am concerned. But all her albums have good tracks (and not all of them were singles : that's the problem with recent albums : bad singles choices)

If you stopped caring after "Confessions On A Dancefloor", you missed some amazing songs.

Here's what I consider good or very good songs on each and every album she has released

The First Album ("Borderline", "I Know It"
Like A Virgin ("Over And Over", "Dress You Up")
True Blue ("La Isla Bonita", "Love Makes The World Go Round")
Who's That Girl ("Causing A Commotion", "Can't Stop")
Like A Prayer ("Till Death Do Us Part", "Express Yourself", "Keep It Together"
I'm Breathless ("Vogue")
Erotica ("Deeper And Deeper", "Bad Girl", "Why's It So Hard")
Bedtime Stories ("Survival", "Don't Stop", "Forbidden Love")
Ray Of Light ("Frozen", "The Power Of Good-Bye", "Swim")
Music ("Impressive Instant", "Music", "Don't Tell Me")
American Life ("Love Profusion", "Nothing Fails", "Mother And Father", "Die Another Day")
Confessions On A Dancefloor ("Hung Up", "Jump", "Sorry")
Hard Candy ("Miles Away", "Voices", "Devil Wouldn't Recognize You")
MDNA ("Girl Gone Wild", "")
Rebel Heart ("Ghost Town", "Devil Pray", "Unapologetic ", "Hold Tight", "Addicted").

Not to mention extra-tracks that aren't on any of her albums, but on compilations only or which have been forgotten altogether which is a shame :

Gambler (1985)
Spotlight (1987)
Rescue Me (1991)
I'll Remember (1994)
You'll See (1995)
Hey You (2007)
Celebration (2009)
Revolver (2010)

I agree "Rebel Heart" was a true return to form. Especially after the disastrous "MDNA". But as I said, bad singles choices ruined his chances for good charts performances. ("Living For Love" as first single and then " I'm Madonna" I was so mad at her for this).

The day she released " I'm Madonna" as a single when I heard "Hold Tight" instead everywhere I went (on the radio, at McDonald's etc) I knew the carreer of this album was doomed. Even the radios prefer "Hold Tight" to "" and I couldn't blame them.

I agree with all of them, excepts Rebel Heart.
OK Bich I'm Madonna is not one of my favourites but the rest are better than any of the last singles after COAD.
