Lewis Capaldi has no intention of "re-inventing" his music on forthcoming second album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent

In the follow-up to 2019's blockbuster debut, the Scottish singer-songwriter has said that he has no "artistic desire" to drastically switch up his sound.

Lewis Capaldi has spoken about his forthcoming album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, and his resistance against drastically changing his musical stylings.

The second album from the Scottish singer-songwriter is scheduled for release next May, and was preceded by the lead single Forget Me, which debuted at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart, bringing Lewis his third UK chart-topper.

In a new interview with The Guardian's G2 magazine, Lewis opened up about the sound of his sophomore record which will, stick to his own proven formula, despite the relative change-up of Forget Me being a mid-tempo synth-pop cut.

"All in all, the album’s the same. I like making this music; it’s done all right in the past," he claimed. "I don’t have this sort of artistic desire to go off and reinvent myself. Not at all. I feel like the same person, so why would I be searching for something new?"

One hallmark of albums from singers that have (much like Lewis) hit almost un-paralleled heights of fame and success normally deal with the disconnect these artists feel with their new-found fame, but this is something Lewis tried to fight against when writing and recorded new material.

He continued: "[I was] very conscious about not writing an album about being famous, being successful” because no one wants to hear 'Oh, I’m famous and my life’s s*it and I’m crying in my big house.'"

Lewis' debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, is one of the most successful first albums from a UK artist in recent memory. It topped the Official Albums Chart for 10 weeks, and was named the biggest album in the UK of 2019 and 2020 respectively.

According to Official Charts Company data, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent has churned up over 1.3 million chart units to date. It contained two UK Number 1 singles, Somebody You Loved and Before You Go.
