When it comes to her song writing, Lauren Spencer-Smith always avoids the ordinary. Broaching uncomfortable subjects so many steer clear of, her talent lies in addressing adversity from a place of pure vulnerability. Proper, heart-on-your-sleeve stuff.

And Lauren's brand-new single Best Friend Breakup - released this Friday February 10 - remains as refreshingly-honest as ever.

The track sees Lauren tackle the tragedy of forgotten friendship; a topic all too often overlooked. We've heard a million songs detailing lost romance, but here's a track dealing with the pain of losing a platonic pal.

"Everyone at school thought we were sisters, dressed the same, talked the same, together all the time," Lauren sings pensively. "You can find my in your family pictures, next to you, in the frame, but you moved on and I'm replaced..."

It's a narrative we know all too well in the context of a romantic relationship, but the lyrics truly hit different addressing a bitterness between besties. We challenge you not to well up.

Then comes the souring chorus. "Oh, now you don't know me at all. You left with no warning. Always thought that it'd be love, now it's gone and messed me up. Didn't think it hurt this much when best friends break up."

Trust us, Lauren is giving vocals on this one.
