Justin Timberlake and Bastille battle it out in the race to score this week’s Official Singles Chart Number 1, while Wiley and Chip, Paramore and Laura Mvula are on course for new entries in the Official Top 40 on Sunday.

Justin Timberlake and Bastille are going head-to-head in the race to this week’s Official Singles Chart Number 1.

The US star, who performed at last week’s BRIT Awards, is currently in pole position with his latest single Mirrors up three places from Number 4 last Sunday, while London quartet Bastille are only 2,000 copies behind him at this mid-way stage with their new track Pompeii, which is taken from forthcoming debut album Bad Blood.

If the mighty JT can maintain his lead through to Sunday, it will be his highest charting single since 2006’s Sexyback, and only his second Official Number 1 as a lead artist. Mirrors is the second track to be lifted from Justin Timberlake’s upcoming third album, The 20/20 Experience, which is due for release next month.

Meanwhile reigning chart kings, One Direction, fall two places to Number 3 with their Comic Relief charity single, One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks). Thrift Shop, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ ode to bargain hunting is at Number 4 on today’s Official Chart Update, while Taylor Swift’s I Knew You Were Trouble completes the Top 5.

New Entries And High Climbers

In addition to Bastille’s Pompeii (Number 2), there are three other new entries on today’s Official Chart Update Top 40.

Following the massive success of his chart-topping single Heatwave and its Number 3 follow-up, Can You Hear Me? (Ayayaya), Wiley looks set to score his third Top 10 single as a lead artist in less than twelve months on Sunday with Reload. The track also features guest vocals from fellow London MC, Chipmunk, under his new moniker of Chip.

Paramore are on course for their fifth Top 40 hit with new entry Now (23), while BRITs Critics’ Choice nominee Laura Mvula is on course for her first Official Top 40 hit with Green Garden new in at Number 25.

This week’s highest climber is Adele’s Skyfall, which shoots up 11 places from Number 25 to Number 14, following the London star’s Oscars win on Sunday.
