Sex Pistols frontman, Johnny Rotten, will appear in a new stage production of Jesus Christ Superstar, set to tour the US.

John Lydon AKA Johnny Rotten will play King Herod in the classic musical, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

Lydon will be joined by Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd playing Judas, Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams playing Mary Magdalene, and JC Chasez of ‘90s boy band, ‘N Sync, playing Pontius Pilate.

The lead role of Jesus will be played by Ben Forster, winner of ITV’s 2012 talent show, Superstar. Superstar, which was hosted by Amanda Holden, saw judges Mel C, Jason Donovan and Dawn French whittle down contestants over a period of 4 weeks, with Ben emerging victorious in the final. Mel C went on to star alongside Ben, comedian Tim Minchin and former Radio 1 DJ, Chris Moyles, in the 2012 UK stage production of the musical.

The US tour of Jesus Christ Superstar will commence in New Orleans, on June 9, and take in over 50 cities before ending in Philadelphia on August 16.
