The power of advertising strikes in today’s Official Chart Update, as today’s highest climber inside the Top 40 comes courtesy of Slow Moving Millie (aka Amelia Warner), with her cover of The Smiths’ Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want’.  The track featureson this year’s John Lewis Christmas TV campaign.

Climbing 130 places to Number 38, the Slow Moving Millie recording soundtracks ‘The Long Wait” festive campaign created by communications agency, Adam & Eve. The advert tells the charming story of a little boy twiddling his thumbs as he patiently counts down the days to Christmas so that he can present his parents with exciting Christmas gifts.  The closing message reads “For gifts you can’t wait to give”.

The advert broke on Facebook and YouTube at the end of last week before its debut appearance around the X Factor at the weekend.  The ad has already racked up over 1.2 million hits on You Tube since launch.

It remains to be seen whether Slow Moving Millie and the British retailer can hold on inside the Top 40 until Sunday’s Official Chart, but Charlene Soraia’s haunting cover of The Calling’s ‘Wherever You Will Go’, as featured in the Twinings tea ad climbed and climbed earlier this Autumn to eventually peak at Number 3 last month, so there could be a chance!
