It’s seventh week lucky for Ed Sheeran at the top of the Official Albums Chart

The unstoppable singer/songwriter’s second album x spends a seventh week at Number 1, the longest consecutive run at the top since Adele’s 21 in 2011.

When Ed Sheeran named his new album ‘Multiply’ (styled as x) he certainly knew what he was doing, as the sales just keep on coming!

The talented singer-songwriter spends a seventh week at the summit of the Official Albums Chart, fighting off competition from Dolly Parton, Sam Smith and Coldplay.

The Official Charts Company recently revealed that x had earned the title of longest consecutively running Number 1 album since Adele’s 21 topped the chart back in January 2011, and if Ed has his way, he may well equal that record. He’s got four weeks to do it!

x’s stay at Number 1 is also the longest consecutive chart-topping run for a British male solo act since James Blunt’s Back To Bedlam claimed the Number 1 spot for eight consecutive weeks in summer 2005. Can Ed hold on one more week to equal James’s triumph? We’ll have all the answers next week!

Ed’s victory means another week at Number 2 for Glastonbury’s show-stealing Dolly Parton and her best of collection Blue Smoke.

Sam Smith’s debut album In The Lonely Hour advances one place to Number 3, while Coldplay’s Ghost Stories, revealed last month to be the biggest selling album of 2014 so far, climbs two places back up to Number 4. George Ezra’s Wanted On Voyage rounds off the Top 5, which means George occupies the fifth spot on both the singles and albums countdowns this week.

New Entries and High Climbers

Former Busted star Charlie Simpson scores his second solo Top 10 on the Official Albums Chart, with Long Road Home this week’s highest new entry at Number 10.

Pixie Lott’s eponymous third album is brand new at Number 15, while last week’s Official Singles Chart Number 1 stars Magic! debut at Number 19 with Don’t Kill The Magic.

Imagine DragonsNight Vision climbs nine places to re-enter the Top 40 at Number 33, while John Newman’s debut Tribute zooms 26 places to land at Number 35.

LA trio Haim also make a reappearance – their album Days Are Gone climbs 24 places to Number 38. Bob Marley’s collection Legend breaks back into the Top 40 at Number 39.
