DJ and producer Calvin Harris has hit one billion streams on Spotify.

The Scottish hitmaker becomes the first British solo act to reach the milestone for worldwide streams of his catalogue.

Calvin’s most popular track on Spotify is Summer with over 160 million streams worldwide, while the total one billion count is the equivalent of 5000 years of continuous listening.

“This is a landmark achievement for Calvin and deserved recognition that he is in the elite tier of global artists,” Mark Terry, Co-President of Columbia Records UK, said. “His recent level of success has been extraordinary and something that all of us here at Columbia are very proud to be part of.”

Steve Savoca, Spotify’s VP Content and Distribution, added: “We would like to congratulate Calvin Harris on reaching the huge milestone of a billion streams on Spotify, conclusive proof if any were needed that he is one of the most popular artists on Spotify.”

To celebrate his record, Calvin will host a Spotify Playlist Takeover on Tuesday, September 9 at 8pm.

Streaming was added to the Official Singles Chart in July this year and includes data from services including Spotify, Deezer, Napster, O2 Tracks, Xbox Music, Sony's Music Unlimited and rara (powered by Omnifone). All are members of the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA).

Meanwhile, this week sees Calvin release his new single Blame, a collaboration with John Newman that was unveiled worldwide last Saturday (September 6). Lisen to the track below:
