Adele's 25 is officially taking over the world, as the highly anticipated album breaks a US sales record after just three days on sale.

The singer's new LP has sold 2.433 million copies in America just three days, Billboard reports, setting a new opening week sales record in the country.

The feat beats the first week record for an album since the US began tracking sales in 1991, set by *NSYNC's No Strings Attached album, which debuted with 2.416 million sales in March 2000.

With the sales tracking week ending on November 26, forecasters predict 25 could finish the week with 2.9 million sales.

Back in the UK, 25 is also well on its way to being the fastest selling album ever. Sales on Tuesday (November 23) stood at 538,000 and it only has one album to beat - Oasis' Be Here Now (696,000 sales) - to take the crown.

25's final opening week sales tally will be revealed on Friday, November 27 here on OfficialCharts.com and on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart show between 4pm - 6pm. See this week's Top 100 Official Albums Chart.
