Paul Russell is a US singer who broke through in 2023 with viral TikTok hit Lil Boo Thang. The feelgood funk track was written by Paul Russell himself, who was raised in Atlanta and went to school in Texas. His breakthrough smash samples The Emotions' 1977 classic Best Of My Love which was originally written by Earth Wind & Fire's Maurice White and Al Mackay.
Lil Boo Thang gave Paul Russell his debut chart appearance on the UK Official Chart in September 2023 before climbing to its Top 20 peak just after Christmas in in early January 2024. A few weeks later the former business analyst turned pop star released follow-up single Say Cheese.
