"Robbie Williams may believe he has no competition. But the day after he began his latest tour, the American superstar Britney Spears arrived to play her first date in Britain, and unveiled a fast, feisty and futuristic arena production that was every bit as spectacular as the shows we have come to expect from Williams. There were pyrotechnic explosions as the 18-year-old singer arrived on stage, while a complex network of hydraulic mechanisms controlled various stairs, walkways and platforms. An electronic Britney-nymph directed the action from a screen above the stage with phrases such as You have just accessed the Britney Spears experience, while the many set changes – from teen bedroom to classroom to lunar park – were accompanied by a succession of full costume changes, both for Spears and her extraordinarily athletic dance troupe."
