Balling is sooooooooooo good
The remix makes me believe I'm still single and I have no friends is the only reason I smile
Thanks vibe chemistry ☺️

Hi Colin, we are aware of the issues with the site's database at the moment, it has been under deep investigation for the past fortnight with a series of adjustments rolling out to improve matters. We sincerely apologise for the intermittent disruption to the site during this period.

1) Have you included any links with the Top 10? If so, try changing “com” to “c*m”, for example.

2) Do any of the song titles have rude words in them? If so, try writing them with blanking letters out, e.g. “s**t”, so that they don’t get caught in the flagging filter.

3) Have you verified your email address with Disqus? OCC won’t accept comments until you’ve done that. 🤔

Would have been good for Running up that Hill to be no.1 this week. (Thanks for nothing acr). A gap of 44 years between number ones, maybe a record?

Also, Gold Rush Kid is the worst album I've ever laid my ears upon.

avatar

1

We need new music this year. This year has been so flat in terms of popular music, we've only had three (maybe four if you include harry's house but that's a push) particularly good albums this year so far. (DAWN FM, CRASH, MM&tBS). Everyone released last year, we need something new. I've also noticed very few breakout artists this year. The only people I can see having any more hits this year are Laruen Spencer Smith and maybe Latto, and neither of those are gonna have any top tens lets be honest. Such a disappointment compared to last year (Olivia Rodrigo, The Kid LAROI, Tom Grennan, A1 & J1, Maneksin, Mimi Webb, Central Cee, etc). This year is a post-COVID flop. :(

DK

Dave Knight

0

You have to blame streaming for that as it makes the charts stagnant.
How can singles like Blinding lights be on the charts for years? Are people not listening to anything else?
When I waa young in the 70's 80's the charts were fresh and vibrant, and had variety. Not anymore.

hey mate, greetings from arizona! sorry mate, i don't know who thin lizzy is...checking their chart history on wikipedia...they haven't done anything over here in a long time. their song 'the boys are back in town' is their biggest u.s. hit back in 1976 @ #12. i'd be more in tune with acts that made the billboard hot 100 chart 1991+. and any acts that were big in the 80s on up.

1

Why do the charts company combine chart positions? For example I looked up Kate Bush to see what chart position Running up that hill peaked at in 1985 and it says number 2, but on Wikipedia it says it peaked at number 3. Surely if its re-entered the charts now, it should be listed as a re-entry. The 1985 position should stay the same for people to still be able to look that up, and not have to rely on Wikipedia for the information.

avatar

Velvet Android

3

Agreed. Back in the old Guinness British Hit Singles books, a reissue or remix (as opposed to a single just re-entering the charts for a week or three during its original run) would be granted a separate listing to distinguish the separate chart feats, which always felt right.

Since in most cases there's no such thing as a 'reissue' per se these days, given that any song available to stream can simply arrive back in the chart under its own steam, so to speak, it's admittedly harder to know how to approach this. I mean, I'm instinctively against letting the established history of, for instance, Running Up That Hill's no.3 sales peak from 1985 be overwritten by a quirk of the 2020s charts – yet I can't really say how 'logical' that feeling is. Should there be some sort of statute of limitations on how old or how recent the prior chart appearance should be, in order to be (in)eligible for rewriting in the manner? I don't know how or where you'd draw the line, of course.

But there certainly doesn't seem to be a huge amount of sense or consistency in the OCC's listings in this regard, for either singles or albums. Sometimes a modern-day chart reappearance of a song/album gets tacked onto the end of a decades-old chart run, sometimes it gets given a whole new listing, with no great apparent logic for the choice. Take for instance the famous weekly Elvis reissue programme of 2005, where all his old number 1s' new chart entries are (correctly) given new listings... except for the last, A Little Less Conversation, where it's tacked onto that song's original 2002 chart run – even though its 2005 reappearance was a limited-edition reissue just as all the preceding 17 singles had been.

In some cases, these things appear to be affected by what record label things reappeared on. Sometimes it's just obviously a result of a misspelling causing a separate entry (e.g. a song called What Do Ya Say being entered into the database on a later occasion as What Do You Say), 'creating' a whole new hit where none existed. Sometimes there appears to be no such reason – so I can only assume the person typing the info in was simply oblivious to a song/album's past chart life or to whatever the guidelines are, if they indeed exist...

C

Conor

8

OK figures:
Harry - As It Was: 55,768 chart sales
Kate - RUTH (ACR): 44,739
Kate - total for this week: 83,613

soe she would be almost 30,000 chart sales ahead of harry if she wasn't on acr. Running Up That Hill is you OFFICIAL #1 this week! <3

The irony is that ACR was supposed to cause less long-running #1’s, so why has it allowed Harry to get an extra week at the top than he actually had the UK’s most popular song for? :/

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

5

something is clearly wrong here, surely she had enough for an acr reset. she was MILES ahead of harry on all formats

C

Conor

4

sadly because ruth is older than 3 years old, its on permenant acr. so the 25% increase = reset doesn't apply. and the only way she could get reset is if her label requested. and even if they did, the occ probably wouldn't grant it since its already been a "hit" in the past

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

4

oh, that is just stupid. :/

i know i used to like it because the charts would actually have some movement because of it, but nah, i want acr gone now.

C

Conor

3

yep it definitely is! i personally do agree with acr as without it the charts would be so slow, and we would probably still have the same top 10 as we did in january, but the permenant acr rule is stupid and pointless

2

“don’t mind the 3 song rule staying”

i don’t like it, but if we were to get rid of it then surely occ can meet in the middle. a lot of people here despise the 3 song rule cause it makes the chart inaccurate, but if it wasn’t there people would also moan when ed sheeran, harry styles, drake etc would clog up the charts with album tracks. occ can’t win either way. maybes bring the number of tracks allowed up if they want to keep it so much?

I honestly don’t know what to think of ‘Afraid To Feel’ right now!

On one hand, I’m not vibing to it as much as I’d have liked given the instant hype behind it, but on the other hand, I appreciate how much it stands out in comparison to other EDM songs in the chart.

Impressive to see it blast into the Top 20 all of a sudden either way though, this could be a real summer hit if it keeps this level of momentum! 👀

avatar

⁉️

3

I think it’s the best EDM song song in the Top 40 by far... 😩

avatar

Piran

2

I think it'll be a grower for me, but pleasantly surprised you liked it nonetheless since you're not usually into many EDM hits! :O

avatar

⁉️

2

To be fair to the genre, it’s been having some good songs charting this year like Down Under, Used To This and now this, but it also some of the worst I’ve ever heard like 21 Reasons, Stay The Night and Where Did You Go. 😩

At least there’s nothing as bad as Friday or The Business yet...

avatar

Piran

2

It seems like DnB is more your style of EDM based on the examples you've given, haha. :)

avatar

⁉️

1

Yeah, and the best Number 1s (and the last good ones 😳) are in the style too. 😩

avatar

Piran

1

As for the four EDM #1's in my personal charts in 2022, one of them you love, two of them you hate & the other I honestly don't know your opinion on! 😩

avatar

⁉️

1

What are the 4 again?

C

Conor

1

its decent, but some of the hype about it over on buzzjack seems undeserved. like its defo not as brilliant as they're making it out to be! but still a decent track anyway

avatar

Piran

1

I haven’t seen many BuzzJack comments about it as of now, but Discord seem to be getting on board with it & the radio won’t stop playing it! :P

avatar

Piran

2

‘Used To This’, ‘In The Dark’, ‘Crazy What Love Can Do’ & ‘Stay The Night’. :)

C

Conor

1

if you look in the songs thread on the dance forum theres lots of people hyping it up there

avatar

⁉️

1

Haven’t heard of In The Dark until now, but it’s alright enough. :)

Certainly better than the latter 2 songs... 😩

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

2

i really like it, so much better than the dull and boring kind of dance music that clogs up the charts.

plus it’s also on my personal now album (ocelot’s mix vol 8) which i may or may not be revealing later tonight…. :))

3

not who you’re talking to, but my fav style of edm is the stuff martin garrix did for his new album, and the style addict is in. i just don’t know the subgenre 😩

dnb is also cool, i really like the style of dnb wilkinson and rudimental make

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

actually scrap that i’ll give it another week

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

used to this (8/10) > in the dark (7/10) >>>>> stay the night (3/10) >>>>>>>>> crazy what love can do (-2/10)

half marks :)

avatar

Piran

Two out of four, but I’ll take it from someone who’s not really a fan of a majority of charting EDM, haha. :)

avatar

Piran

2

Fun fact: I nearly saw Wilkinson at a festival a week ago, but we couldn’t stay for it due to the weather being torrential & his set being outdoors. :/

Funny you should mention Martin though since ‘If We’ll Ever Be Remember’ may be my next #1! 👀

avatar

Piran

2

Excited to see how your next NOW concept is going to be like!

They’re usually way better than the actual editions of the series for me. :)

avatar

Piran

1

I prefer the other Purple Disco Machine & Sophie and the Giants collaboration, ‘Hynotized’, way more.

That being said, ‘In The Dark’ is still a massively underrated dance-pop banger!

Surprised it never even charted in the UK! It was massive in Europe on the radio over the past few weeks. :/

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

1

yeah, i remember you saying in discord you weren’t having the best of days because of it, and i feel bad now because up north, we got intermittent clouds on that day and not much rain 🤣

if only they had a dome up like most stages at festivals, then you would have actually seen him. 😔

Used To This (9/10) > In The Dark (6/10) > Crazy What Love Can Do (-1/10) > Stay The Night (-1/10)

avatar

⁉️

1

Wait, this other one is actually really good. 👀

I probably won’t listen to it much, but I’m really surprised by it. 😩

avatar

Piran

0

Purple Disco Machine often goes down a much more funkier route with EDM, so I could see you liking him considerably more than most other mainstream DJs or producers! :P

avatar

Piran

0

Yeah, they had indoor stages in previous years for this event, so I don’t get why they didn’t do the same again this time round. :/

avatar

afrog

1

i think sentio is progressive house, which was the big edm genre at the start-mid 2010s :)

thanks! :)

avatar

1

I’ll give them a try, what’s songs would you recommend to me 😩

avatar

Piran

Maybe check out the whole ‘Exotica’ album if you’re into the funkier side of EDM. :)

avatar

Karl Macnaughton

1

Yeah, In The Dark is soooooooo good! Where is it? :-/

avatar

Piran

All over my 2022 playlists, but sadly nowhere to be seen on any OCC charts. :/

Piran

Still can’t get over the fact that a Eurovision song is back in the Top 5 nearly halfway through June! 😂

So happy for Sam Ryder either way though! ‘Space Man’ absolutely deserves the success. :)

C

Conor

4

its the cd singles, but anyway its a brilliant song and deserves all the success its getting!

avatar

Piran

3

Completely agree. :)

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

4

how do you know this? cd singles don’t really last. see head on fire

C

Conor

5

well actually... unlike head on fire, he was already doing well on streaming. The cd singles pushed him back to top 5. Head on Fire wasn't doing well on streaming thats why it didn't hold in the top 40

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

5

ohh, i forgot about it’s underwhelming streaming performance. my mistake

C

Conor

4

yeah, it was a shame it didn't do well on streaming because both griff and sigrid deserved another top 40

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

4

one night also deserved. that’s my fav of hers

C

Conor

3

yep 100%! shouldve been a top 10 smash! griff is CONSTANTLY slept on! as is sigrid and maisie peters

AR

Anthony Rogers

Because of the Queen's concert perhaps. Same as with Shotgun and Don't Stop Me Now.
Surprised there is no Diana Ross though, not even the new Minions Film theme with Tame Impala. Perhaps after she does the tour and Lytham and Glastonbury Festivals.

I don’t like his song enough but I’m happy for him. It’s grateful for an Eurovision artist.

KB

Kirk Bottoms

1

Hi all where can customer get actual cd singles from as no uk shop actual sells cd singles and do customers get cd singles from amazon and do there help the official top 100 singles

C

Conor

2

cd singles will come from the artists official store, and if the artist doesn't have one, from their record label's store!

avatar

Piran

1

Glastonbury usually has more of an affect on the albums chart than the singles chart!

I doubt Lytham would really do very much at all. :/

avatar

Damián

1

Yehhh Pi !! Spaceman is a great song! So happy it is back in the top 5! I think he should released another song to establish himself

avatar

Damián

1

Absolutely

avatar

Piran

1

I agree since ‘Space Man’ will probably start dropping off again now that the CD sales have died off. :/

avatar

Damián

1

Oops😪

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

0

you can get them from the artist’s official online store.

i’m surprised hmv doesn’t sell many cd singles, the only ones i remember seeing on my visits there were higher power, bad habits and easy on me.

avatar

Piran

11

‘Running Up The Hill’ would’ve got to #1 this week without ACR. :/

Hopefully the rule doesn’t stop it from spending even one week at the top! 🤞

C

Conor

8

hopefully, with harry set for acr in 1-2 weeks time, and the push from the last 2 episodes of stranger things, she'll get the #1. she 100& deserves it

avatar

Piran

2

If ‘As It Was’ declined today, then it’s at risk of ACR if the same happens next time! 👀

C

Conor

2

it has indeed declined in chart sales this week, down by 15% from last week! acr coming for it asap plz

avatar

Piran

4

I don’t dislike the song, but 10 weeks is overhyped. :/

C

Conor

3

and its not even that great of a song! its sooooo mediocre

avatar

Joshua Sombra

1

Yep

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

3

i disagree with it being mediocre but it’s spent way too long at the top now. time for change

avatar

Damián

1

I think the whole album is mediocre. I love Harry, but this album is quite simple, too overrated

avatar

🧡 oliviasnoodles 🍜

2

for me, the album had some really enjoyable tracks, such as matilda, as it was and grapejuice, but then there was music for a sushi restaurant and daydreaming which were just bad 😐
