I have to disagree with this, sorry. Sorry is way too good, Ride It is a banger, Don't Feel Like Crying is such an underrated tune, i'm so tired is very catchy, Cross Me is very good, Walk Me Home is a 7.5/10 (it soured on me a bit but it is still good), and Baby Shark has to be number 1. No ifs or buts.

This is just my opinion btw so yeah :)

Agree with 90% of this :)
Sunflower is definitely in my top 5 for the year, and Outnumbered is in my top 10. Apart from that, can't fault this (maybe Ransom being in the top 10 is a bit off, but still)

OVERALL: 51.4%
To briefly explain how my ranking system works, anything with an 8/10 or above found place in my personal end-of-year chart, anything with a 6-7/10 is enjoyable to listen to (obviously the lower we go the less enjoyable it is; most of the 6s and 7s also made my weekly top 40s), anything with a 3/10 or lower is unlistenable, and the four lucky songs with a 0/10 are the biggest musical mistakes of 2019. Why.

This year was more decent than the score shows - though lots of these songs wore off quickly, there were also other tunes that I really enjoyed that made the top 40, but not this list unfortunately. (Obviously there was even more great stuff that just wouldn't ever make the charts, but oh well.) I'd say I'm hopeful for next year, but the first big release of 2020 has been the Justin Bieber song 'Yummy', so... we can only go up from here, anyways.

I really love seeing Mabel with two perfect scores, although for you, that was very much expected! ;)

'Hold Me While You Wait' getting a 10/10 is cool too, along with 'Ride It' fairly high up too, since not a lot of people seem to like it on OCC other than me.

It to see 'Senorita' score absolutely nothing though (since it would do the complete opposite for me), but I'm not surprised that two Lizzo songs are there either... you somehow seem to dislike her more than Gameskiller does!

It really was expected with Mabel, haha, although she had far better songs off her album that I enjoyed much more, these two really do deserve the 10/10! 'Hold Me While You Wait' remains my favorite Lewis Capaldi song to date, it couldn't do more on the official chart. 'Ride It', on the other hand, covers the Jay Sean song, which I absolutely love, so any remix of it was instantly going to be good with me!

Yeah, 'Senorita' was absolutely one of the blandest, most forgettable tunes for me this year, and, as I mentioned in my comment to coolocelot above, Shawn Mendes is one of my least favorite male pop singers! Although it wouldn't have started with a 0/10, overplay certainly helped it get there...
Ahaha, I'm not sure if I hate Lizzo more than Gameskiller, I did like one song of hers ('Tempo'), although good thing 'Juice' wasn't on here, I would have had to make a special -1/10 category for that song!

avatar

Piran

1

I guess the fact it's a Shawn Mendes song & all the overplay certainly didn't help matters for you! :P

I actually loved Shawn's part, but of course, it's Camila who really won me over there, haha.

avatar

akyovbashiev

Camila was indeed far better on the song - and I don't even really dislike Shawn Mendes, it's just... he's never won me over with anything. It also doesn't help every time I think of him I remember the dreadful 'Treat You Better'. Urgh.

And yeah, I assume it was a massive airplay hit worldwide, but here in Bulgaria, radios didn't catch a break over the summer playing this track...

avatar

Piran

'Treat You Better' was indeed a step in the wrong direction for him, but with 'Senorita', I thought Shawn & Camila complemented each other perfectly for the duet (even without acknowledging that they're a couple, because they weren't "official" when the song first came out).

TOTAL SCORE: 7,384/10,000 (73.84%)

I actually really liked 2019 for music, far more than this chart shows! Even though this chart came out with a pretty good score, up by roughly 2 whole percentage points on 2018's, it still only includes 20 of the 100 songs on my own personal Favourite Songs of 2019 chart, and only 1 of my 3 100/100s! Still, with only 8 songs dropping below the half score, and 76 getting a 7/10 or higher, this re-ordering ended up overwhelmingly positive for me!

The couple 'The Greatest Showman' tracks still on the chart brought the score down a tiny bit, but nowhere near to the same extent as last year. What helped the score much more is the fact that the 9/10 group in this re-ordering is actually the biggest one, with almost a full quarter, 24, of the tracks on this chart falling into that range! That's way up on 2018's 14 tracks in the range, though the 8/10 range is down from 25 to 22 and the 7/10 range is down from 26 to 19.

Overall, 2019 was a very good year for hit music, in my opinion!

Hey Gameskiller! :)

It seems like everyone did full Top 100 re-orderings, but I just had to settle with the Top 10 & Bottom 10, since I just couldn't find the time, haha.

I love the perfect scores for: 'Take Me Back To London', 'Circles', 'South Of The Border' & 'Senorita', even if the latter is the only one of the four that would also get a 10/10 from me!

It's amazing to see 'SOS' (my favourite song of 2019) with a rating of 83%, even if it was only just in the upper half of the list! It seems like you enjoyed last year a lot then...

Right at the bottom, it's disappointing to see such low scores for Christmas songs & musical hits, but I saw that coming, since I know they're not really your thing! I've also got no complaints about 'Truth Hurts' coming second to last! 'Baby Shark' making the Chart Of The Year was very weird, but to me it's just offensive. Besides, it was never intended to hit the charts anyway & it is ultimately a kids' song/meme! :P

The biggest difference is probably '7 Rings', where you ended up supporting it throughout the entire year, while it just got so old for me & I hated it more every time I listened to it! It really disappoints me how a song I found decent at first aged so badly that it ended up as the lowest ranked song on my list...

Anyway, amazing re-ordering & commentary as usual mate! :D

'Talk' being Top 10 on the US End Of Year Chart was a bit surprise for me, although it appears that Disclosure never got credited on the song anywhere outside of NZ, as far as I can tell!

I agree with most of this list, although disappointed to see 'Old Town Road' & 'Ride It' here! I also wish Billie Eilish never made this list, but I get her style isn't really for you.

The biggest surprise though if 'Promises', given how much you usually like Calvin Harris! :O

that's the only track to discredit Calvin Harris haha only that one

And did you know if it wasn't Old Town Road and Bad Guy
Talk Khalid would've been number 1 .I still give the dude a chance. he could have a number 1 in future given that he has scored quite top 5 hits. He's super talented. It spent 11 weeks at number 1 (Talk)on Hot Airplay 100. &Disclosure very talented at producing

Yeah, I remember it peaking at #3 in the US, but the Hot 100 had a ton of competition around that time!

I guess the good news for you is that Billboard ranked it at 29th on their 100 Best Songs Of 2019 list. :)

I guess I was more impressed with it by how well Sam Smith actually sounded over the 80's disco style production! :D

So that's literally the only song you don't like from him then?

and there was an article on Billboard on Khalid that he might have a potential to get a number 1 in the US because it's now twice he has peaked #3 there's still a chance for him

I think it could happen soon too! After all, he managed to get two #1 singles in the UK in the past 18 months with 'Eastside' (Benny Blanco & Halsey) & 'Beautiful People' (Ed Sheeran).

Only the hook, because I found the verses to be so groovy! :D

Hey Piran! While I definitely never thought I'd be happy to see 'I Don't Care' and 'Truth Hurts' make any list, here we are! Apart from that, though, I don't really mind 'Ransom' and 'Swervin' in the top 10, I suppose '7 rings' to some extent too, everything else I actually enjoyed, especially 'Goodbyes'!

As for your dishonorable mentions, it's only really unfortunate to see 'Fashion Week', 'How do You Sleep?' and especially 'So High' on there, everything else though is good! (which I guess means it's actually bad, haha)

Piran

Yeah, 'I Don't Care' just seems very formulaic & bland to me, while Lizzo never sounded good on 'Truth Hurts'! :P

'So High' got an initially good review from me, but it just became a lot less interesting with every single listen I gave it.

If '7 Rings' taught us anything, it's that Ariana should stick to the pop she's good at, not try to hop on any trap trends, haha!

That's exactly the reason why I dislike 'I Don't Care' so much, it's just tailor-made for massive radio airplay and playlist filler. Meanwhile, Lizzo's voice on 'Truth Hurts' is painful, haha.

That's a shame about 'So High', it never really wore off on me, even to this day I still really enjoy hearing it, that sample is just something else.

I mean, I didn't really mind the beat on '7 rings' and she was kind of alright on it, I can see why people would dislike it though; on the other hand, with something like 'Monopoly' (I just though of this, but she was even worse on 'the light is coming', wow I hate that I remembered that song)... yeah, she should probably stay away from trap.
