You may or may not be familiar with Julia Michaels yet, but you'll almost certainly be aware of some of the songs she's penned for other acts.
Real name Julia Carin Cavazos, the singer-songwriter is making quite the first impression with her debut single Issues, which last week became her first UK Top 40 hit as an artist in her own right. We say that, because she's already had eight Top 40 hits here as a songwriter already. Not bad for a 23-year-old, right?!
Julia first released her own music with two EPs in 2010 and 2012, but in the five years between then and Issues, she's been working with some of the music industry's elite and turning out some seriously huge hits in process...
Perhaps the most high profile track in Julia's songwriting catalogue, Julia worked on Sorry along with her writing partner Justin Tranter, Justin Bieber himself, BloodPop, and Skrillex. The result, thanks to a bit of added Bieber magic, was the first song to ever reach 100 million streams in the UK. Julia also worked with Justin on The Feeling from his Purpose album, which features Halsey. That track reached Number 34 following the release of Biebs' album Purpose in November 2015.
Rita Ora's second album is still not yet with us, but we got a taster of its potential with Poison, her 2015 summer tune that reached Number 3 in the UK. Random fact: Julia worked on Poison with Kate Nash!
Julia has penned three songs in all for Fifth Harmony, the most notable being All In My Head (Flex), the second single from their album 7/27. Dope, an album track from that release was also a brainchild of Julia's, as was Miss Movin' On from 5H's debut EP.
Julia's songwriting has a huge fan in Selena Gomez, who released both Good for You and Hands to Myself as singles from her 2015 Revival album. Both reached the UK Top 40, at 23 and 14 respectively, while Selena has since described Hands To Myself as "a beautiful accident" and "probably the best song on the album".
Nick Jonas - Close ft. Tove Lo
Another instance where Julia partnered with other renowned artists and writers, Close is the product of Julia and Tove Lo's hard work, alongside Swedish songwriting duo Mattman & Robin, who also worked with Julia on tracks for Hailee Steinfeld, Gwen Stefani and Britney Spears.
Ed Sheeran - Dive
Julia's most recent credit is on Ed Sheeran's Dive, one of many tracks from his ÷ album that has already reached the UK Top 10. Ed teamed up with Julia and fellow hitmaker Benny Blanco (Britney, Kesha, Rihanna) to come up with the lyrics and earns her a third UK Top 10 track as a songwriter.
