We Don’t Talk Bruno eyes third week at Number 1 as Gayle’s abcdefu re-enters battle for the top

Plus possible big rises from Belters Only and Luude, and a massive new entry for Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama.

Reigning Number 1 We Don’t Talk About Bruno by the Encanto cast is currently leading the race for Number 1 on this week’s Official Singles Chart. If it holds its position, it will mark its third consecutive week at the top, after becoming the first original Disney song to ever reach Number 1 in the UK.

But don’t count out its challengers just yet; Gayle is at Number 2 with former chart-topper abcdefu, while Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran may have been denied Number 1 last week, but Peru is still in the race, currently at Number 3 after 48 hours.

The cast of Encanto could score a total of three tracks in the Top 10 this Friday. As well as We Don’t Talk Bruno, Surface Pressure by Jessica Darrow is currently holding at Number 4, while The Family Madrigal featuring Stephanie Beatriz and Olga Merediz could ascend into the Top 10 for the first time, looking to jump six places to Number 5.

Irish DJ collective Belters Only are also looking to secure their first UK Top 10 entry this week, with their track Make Me Feel Good featuring vocalist Jazzy currently up five to Number 8.

This is swiftly followed by Australian DJ Luude, whose Down Under ft. Colin Hay - a re-working of the 1981 Men At Work song of the same name  flies seven to Number 9 on the First Look. If it holds on it will become Luude’s first Top 10 hit, and vocalist Colin Hay’s second; Hay previously reached Number 1 in the UK with the original song as the lead vocalist of Men At Work.

Viral scouse star Hazey continues his rise on the Official Singles Chart with the buzzy Packs And Potions. The 17-year-old rapper could reach a new peak of Number 16 this Friday.

Finally, Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama’s garage-inspired new collaboration Beg For You is currently tracking to debut at Number 20. Sampling September’s 00s dance classic Cry For You, it would be Charli’s 12th Top 40 hit and Rina’s first.

The Official Singles Chart Top 100 is revealed on OfficialCharts.com every Friday at 5.45pm. Follow the Top 40 countdown live on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart show with Scott Mills.

I'm in genuine shock that a DnB song is in tonight's Top 10! 😂

Gutted that 'Where Are You Now' is on ACR, especially when it only just hit a new peak position!

At least it managed to get at least one week inside the Top 10. :)

is it on ACR? maybe OCC just forgot it existed lol

avatar

Piran

1

No, it's because OCC have decided it's such a banger that it deserves even better than #1! ;)

Piran

2

I think it might've still declined in streams for three consecutive weeks rather than overall sales (since it's #1 on the sales chart), so they're getting rid of it anyway. :/

I'm pretty sure it is not on ACR as it has not declined at all ove rthe past weeks. I reckon they either didn't have data from either spotify or amazon or something, or they forgot!

Yeah, it not right really ACR, the whole point about Charts is what you brought or streamed the most, it meant to be a Top Charts, so if you cut down in streaming point or unit by half or more then it not really official Charts , you know what i think when Radio 1 and OCC does Christmas Charts a week early, But Trust me, 100% im not going to talk about that again or not next Christmas because a - believe dont believe me, b) people think i'm lying or keep winding then up.

I do think ACR helps the chart though, because without it we would have the same songs in the charts for months on end, and if a song is popular enough, it should stay decently high when on ACR, look at Cold Heart by Elton John and Dua Lipa, currently #15 in this update even though its on ACR!

C

Conor

1

It didn't decline as if it had it would not have managed to climb up the chart so quickly and so highly, It was definitely a mistake, or OCC just chose to forget it!

No, But then that the whole point it meant to be what people are loving right now the most, not cutting down unit for one and high for other, the problem the charts is they should promote more new entry (there is like 65-120 new song or singles every week), about 21 years ago Radio 1 Charts was very different, Pure Sales & Physical Only No ACR,, back then over 12 new singles that week straight in the Top 40 each week, now it hard to get 3 or 4 each week, time has changed for Sure, in my view around 1998-2004 is more acurate than now

I was having a think about this last night & while ‘Where Are You Now’ increased in combined sales over the past weeks, it’s mainly getting that from downloads (#1 on iTunes, #2 on sales chart!).

However, it turns out that a song has to decline for three consecutive weeks in streaming only (not combined sales) to be placed on ACR, which appears to be what’s happened to it here. :/

avatar

Piran

1

Yeah, I still don’t agree with you on the Christmas charts debate, but I’m absolutely support your opinion on ACR. :/

avatar

Piran

1

It’s a lot more difficult to tell now that we don’t get regular weekly updates on what’s getting hit. :/

With ACR, and Streaming points it like a Computer Game Charts this days, I Don't agree with ACR as its a game of who to push at that week or weeks later, as Indie artist struggle anyway to get into Top 40 on week 1 on release, if it more than certain week released than it will be put on ACR in that time by the time it heads to the Top 40 or Above and never get there, also if you look at it logically artist is spending more week more anyway and the whole point is not getting the same song in the Top 40 not just the top with promo of new songs releases, so it should be balanced out with new releases.

Nice one, yeah people have different views on charts, and i agree about ACR with u, one thing that you may agree or disagree, do u think ? BBC Radio 1 Charts should be early in the morning, for prime time slot, for increased boosting listeners than afternoon for live listening different lowered, i know its Traditional to have it around the same time as possible, i know a few times rarely we had it at 10am, but days has been different in the past, also i miss the 6pm/1800hrs, Top 10 watching vision video online about 9-10 years can u remember that, that was really cool, seems like we going back then the current or future hehe.

I don’t know, I imagine the charts are a lot better for a Friday evening so that it’s consistent with the new global music release day & it’s also something to start off the weekend with, so I imagine it’ll still get a lot of listeners anyway, but that’s just my own personal take on it. :)

avatar

BleeUK

no Radio 1 viewers are down in the late afternoon, only 1.2 million vs. nearly 6 million for Breakfast that a huge chuck not listening, Charts would suit better for the prime time slot, also about New Music Friday is not always Friday Releases for some reason indie alt artist and some new releases are released on Tuesday/Wednesday not Friday, so that more hard to charts Top 40 for Friday Charts that days out.

avatar

Piran

Yeah, but more often than not, new releases would still happen on Fridays than any other day of the week. :)

I still find it quite weird that Charts is still on at 4pm, where you could get better response and more listeners at 7am, i can remember Chris Moyle's on his Breakfast Show he used to read the Top 10 countdown in the morning and play the #1 song about 8am on Monday could you remember that ? that was like 2006, that was cool, but back to new music Friday that was the point is meant to be only New Music Friday song released as before a date a song could come out any time, a lot on alterative artist and older type of songs struggling with streaming methods as it does better on physical or sales charts only, but there tend to release it from Tuesday night, which is odd and making that very hard for one strong week to get high,

Piran

I couldn’t remember that as I only like seven or eight years old at the time, so I wasn’t even listening to not following the charts back then anyway! :P

It might not be the best song she's been a part of, but I'm so happy to see Rina Sawayama in the Top 20! 😍
