The Official Chart New Year’s Update

This week’s Official Update has been delayed slightly by the Christmas holidays, but the Official Charts Company can now reveal that Coldplay’s ‘Paradise’ and Olly Murs’ ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ are currently battling it out to be the first Number 1 of 2012!

‘Paradise’, which was originally released back in September previously peaked on the Official Singles Chart at Number 2, is currently in the lead, while former chart topper ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ is in second place.

Last week’s Number 1, and first recipients of the Official Singles Chart Number 1 Award, ‘Wherever You Are’ by Military Wives and Gareth Malone, slips two places to this week’s Number 3. Flo Rida’s ‘Good Feeling’ climbs three places to this week’s Number 4, while X Factor winners Little Mix’s ‘Cannonball’ completes this week’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 5.

Over on the Official Album Chart, singer songwriter Ed Sheeran is back at the top with his debut release, ‘+’, while Coldplay’s ‘Mylo Xyloto’ is in second place.  Olly Murs’ second album, ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’, holds firm at three, and Bruno Mars’ 2010 debut, ‘Doo-wops & Hooligans’, climbs seven places to this week’s Number 4. Amy Winehouse’s posthumous album, ‘Lioness: Hidden Tresures’, has slipped from last week’s Number 2 to this week’s Number 5.
