The Official biggest vinyl albums and singles of 2022 so far

The top vinyl releases of the year so far come from acts like Harry Styles, Liam Gallagher and Muse

Harry Styles' Harry’s House is the biggest vinyl album of 2022 to date, the Official Charts Company can reveal.

The One Direction star’s third solo record, which also is the biggest album of 2022 to date overall, also boasts the biggest song of the year thus far; As It Was.

Official Charts Company data shows Harry's House has sold 60,000 copies on wax since its release in May, more than any other LP year-to-date.

Harry also claims two further entries on the Top 40 list. 2019 record Fine Line is at Number 27, while his 2017 self-titled debut is at Number 37.

Liam Gallagher sits in second place in the latest update with C’Mon You Know. The former Oasis frontman has sold just under 35,000 vinyl copies of his third solo studio LP, which peaked at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, since its release in June. Gallagher’s live album Down By The River Thames – released on the same day – also features as the 22nd biggest release.

Isle of Wight exports Wet Leg claim the title of 2022’s best-selling debut to date. The duo, Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, round off an all-British Top 3 on the list, with their eponymous LP shifting 23,000 copies on vinyl up to Q3's end point. Dublin rock group Fontaines D.C. are hot on their heels, with their first-ever UK Number 1 album Skinty Fia the year's fifth-biggest vinyl.

Elsewhere in the Top 10 are 2022 releases from Muse with their chart-topping Will Of The People (4), Yard Act's debut LP The Overload (7) and Paolo Nutini's comeback record Last Night In The Bittersweet (8), which became the Scottish singer-songwriter's first Number 1 album in eight years earlier this year.

Former Number 1 albums also making the list include George Ezra's Gold Rush Kid (18), Arcade Fire's We (20), Florence & The Machine's Dance Fever (21) and Charli XCX's pop-tastic Crash (24), which secured the star her first-ever UK chart topper this year.

The best-selling vinyl singles of 2022 so far

Sex Pistols officially claim the best-selling vinyl single of 2022 with God Save The Queen.

When the Pistols’ classic was re-released in June, everyone understandably assumed that Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee (which it was issued to commemorate) would be the most historic royal event of the year. But this was sadly not to be.

The single did, of course, originally (and somewhat controversially) peak at Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart during Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee in 1977 – and, in 2022, a limited number of special edition pressings were made available to fans. These special editions sold out on pre-order (as these things often do) so that by September, when Queen Elizabeth sadly passed away and King Charles III took the throne, there was not a single copy left for fans to snap up as the nation mourned. Read more about God Save The Queen’s colourful chart history here.

Record Store Day 2022 ambassador Taylor Swift’s The Lakes is at Number 2 on our list of biggest vinyl single to date. The track, originally included on the deluxe edition of Folklore, was released as a limited edition run on wax in April and reached the Official Singles Chart Top 100 as a result, peaking at Number 88.

The Top 5 of 2022 so far also sees releases from Harry Styles, with Late Night Talking in at Number 3. Suggs and Paul Weller’s Motown-influenced collaboration Ooh Do U Fink U R is in at Number 4. At Number 5, we find Pink Floyd and Andriy Khylvnyuk with Hey, Hey! Rise Up!, the first original music in over 30 years from the influential rock band. With all funds going to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund, the song peaked at Number 49, the band's highest chart placement in the UK since 1994.

Lewis Capaldi’s catchy comeback track Forget Me lands at Number 6, while Scottish indie rock group Arab Strap are at Number 7 with Aphelion.

The wider Top 20 sees further Record Store Day-exclusive vinyl, including U2’s A Celebration (15), a reissue of Madonna’s Who’s That Girl (16) and Sam Fender’s previously-unreleased track Alright (22).

Rounding off the Top 20 is Frank Turner with A Wave Across A Bay, released in January to pay tribute to late Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison. Profits of the single benefit the youth mental health charity Tiny Changes.

You can see the best-selling records in independent record shops every week on the Official Record Store Chart, and follow the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and Vinyl Singles Chart to keep track of the UK’s vinyl habits.
