The nominations for this year's Ivors with Apple Music have been announced.

The Ivors Academy - which recognises excellence in songwriting and screen composition across songs, albums, film, television and video games - has recognised 35 individual songwriters this year, including Stormzy, Dave, Kate Tempest, Sam Smith, Sam Fender and Little Simz.

Among the nominees, listed in full below, are Nick Cave, Little Simz and Kate Tempest for Best Album, while The Crown series 3 and Euphoria are up for Best TV Soundtrack.

Dave's Black, which he performed at this year's BRIT Awards, is up for Best Contemporary song against JAE5 and J Hus's Must Be; and Stormzy, Jamie Cullum and Sam Fender will go head to head for the Best Song Musically and Lyrically prize.

Now in its 65th year, this year's ceremony is unable to go ahead due to Covid-19. The winners will instead be announced on September 2 by Matt Wilkinson on Beats 1 radio at 11am.

Crispin Hunt, Chair of The Ivors Academy said: “Our judges have recognised extraordinary works that reflect on all aspects of the human experience and demonstrate the power and importance of music, in all its forms. Everything begins with the creativity of the songwriter or composer, and this is the building block on which our industry rests.

"That is why these awards are so important because they celebrate this craft and talent. It is also fantastic to see nearly half of those recognised today nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for the very first time. Congratulations to everyone."

For the album, it has to go to Little Simz, a top 3 album of last year for me.

Also have to go with Black for singles, although J Hus is quite close.

Skipping past a few that I don't really care about, I pick Crown for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. It especially succeeds musically, amazing production, and the lyrics are amazing delivered by Stormzy.

The PRS for Music Most Performed Song confuses me. Are we supposed to pick the most popular or the best? The most popular is probably Giant, although Hold Me While You Wait might be close. If it's quality, Giant far outdoes the other two for me. Those other two are just so lazy and boring.
