The first ever Official Progressive Albums Chart has arrived!

Following last week's announcement that Official Charts has teamed up with Prog Magazine to create the new monthly chart of the biggest progressive albums, today (September 9) we reveal the first ever full Top 30.

As we announced last week, Australian rockers Tame Impala claim the first ever Number 1 on the tally with Currents, which was released in July this year. The five-piece make a big impact on the first chart with a further two entries; 2012's Lonerism at 11 and their 2010 debut Innerspeaker at Number 16.

Outside the previously-announced Top 10, prog metal band Between The Buried And Me are at Number 12 with their latest album Coma Ecliptic, and ever-changing '60s/'70s rock band Procal Harum land at 15 with their self-titled debut, first released in 1967.

The Official Progressive Albums Chart will be published in each montly issue of Prog Magazine as well as OfficialCharts.com.

An extensive list of albums eligible for the chart have been defined by the progressive rock experts at Prog Magazine and will be refined by new releases every month, with the biggest selling titles ranked on physical and digital sales and audio streaming data (from services such as Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, Google Play and more), collected by the Official Charts Company. The ever evolving list will identify the artists and albums that push the conceptions and boundaries of ‘traditional music’.

Martin Talbot, Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company, said: “We are delighted to be working with the progressive music experts at Prog Magazine to create this exciting new chart – and look forward to giving the most inventive artists working today a new showcase of their own, every month.”
