The Academic, Wyvern Lingo and Villagers among nominees for the RTE Choice Music Prize 2018

The nominees for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Album of the Year 2018 have been revealed.

Announced on Tracy Clifford's RTÉ2FM show this afternoon (January 9), the 10 shortlisted finalists were wittled down from a longlist of 194 albums released by Irish acts last year.

The Academic's Number 1 album Tales From The Backseat makes the list, as well as Official Irish Albums Chart Top 10 records from Wyvern Lingo, Villagers, Delorentos. Albums by Just Mustard, O Empress, Lisa O'Neill, Saint Sister, Rejjie Snow and Kojaque complete the line-up.

The RTÉ Choice Music Prize has ran since 2005, celebrating albums from the likes of The Divine Comedy, Two Door Cinema Club, Villagers and Soak. The prize recognises the best new music from artists and bands from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The RTÉ Choice Music Prize live show takes places on Thursday March 7 at Vicar Street in Dublin featuring live performances from the finalists, where the overall winner will be unveiled.
