Fans of Taylor Swift were calling out for Lover album track Cruel Summer to get an official single release in 2020's summer months, what with, you know, that apt title. And although the Swifties didn't get that, they got something to more than make up for it - an entire new album.

The US megastar shocked the world by surprise-releasing her eighth studio record less than a year after putting out her last. Folklore is a subdued and understated indie-folk offering, feeling like an audio novella in parts as Taylor tells the story of fictitious characters throughout the 16 tracks, including a love triangle between Betty, James, and Inez. The new songs are a departure from Taylor's pop-leaning work in her recent albums and are a welcome addition to her discography.

But should Taylor have made some previous album tracks singles before moving onto the next project? Were her fans on the money when they wanted Cruel Summer to be a single in its own right? Today we're going to reveal Taylor's Top 5 most popular non-singles, album tracks that hadn't already been promo singles or serviced to radio.

Taylor's biggest non-single comes from the GRAMMY winning 1989 and is All You Had To Do Was Stay. It's 11.6 million streams are bolstered by a respectable 16,000 downloads to make it the biggest song Taylor never released as a single across all formats. Fellow 1989 track How You Get The Girl lands in fifth with 17k paid-for sales and 8.9 million streams.

#JusticeForIDidSomethingBad could very well be a deserved hashtag, with the Reputation album track being Taylor's second biggest UK non-single. Although not given the full treatment, IDSB was performed at the American Music Awards, so at least it has a music video of sorts. I Did Something Bad is actually Taylor's most-streamed non-single, racking up 12.6 million UK listens.

It turns out Cruel Summer is indeed one of them too, coming in at Number 4. The song did in fact peak at Number 27 on the Official Chart despite not being a true single in the week following Lover's release in August 2019. To date, the song has amassed 12 million UK plays. However another Lover track has a stronger claim to being promoted to a single in an alternate universe - I Forgot That You Existed has 12.3 million streams and ranks third.
