What has Taylor Swift said about her Midnights album?

Taking to social media, Taylor said: "We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t – right this minute – about to make some fateful life-altering mistake.

This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching – hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet ourselves.

"Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight."

Speaking about the album's third track, Anti-Hero, Taylor called it one of her "favourite song s I've ever written," and revealing it's all about the dissonance she feels between her interior life and exterior life.

If the album’s out in October, hopefully that means we’re getting the lead single some time next month!

Regardless, very excited for the new album! I expected another “Taylor’s Version” re-release, but even better that it’s entirely new music. :)

What genre does everyone think it’ll be? 🕛

'The Car' by Arctic Monkeys is currently due for release on Friday 21st October (the same day as Taylor Swift's 'Midnights')

Arctic Monkeys currently have a 100% Number 1 success rate with studio album releases (compared to Taylor Swift's 73%)

Arctic Monkeys have had 13 weeks at Number 1 across 6 albums, compared to Taylor Swift's 11 weeks with 8 albums.

Both artists released their debut album in 2006.
Total weeks on Album chart (to date):
Taylor Swift: 660
Arctic Monkeys: 792

So what? I didn’t even mention the albums chart anywhere in my post! I’m just excited for new material from her.

That being said, since you brought up the albums chart, remember that Taylor’s had eight consecutive #1 albums in the past 10 years. The fact that she’s tying for the second most leaders among female artists ever, especially when it only took her a decade, shows the insane impact she has had, currently has & will continue to have in pop culture!

Yes, Arctic Monkeys will probably sell more in the first week, both digitally & maybe even physically, but Taylor will likely have more longevity thanks to streaming (could even get to the top following week if there are no big 28/10 releases), plus more success in the singles market & radio audience! She’ll absolutely have huge figures worldwide on top of all that & that’s nothing against Arctic Monkeys at all (I still like them a lot), that’s just a prediction I’m making based off recent studio albums.

Even if she doesn’t make it to #1 with this project, she’ll absolutely get more in the future & she likely would with ‘Midnights’ in nearly any other week in 2022!

Look at how much more first week units ‘Red’ shifted with its re-releases compared to the original. Whenever she does the same with ‘1989’, it’s probably coming for an even stronger debut again. :)

i'm confused as to how you've worked this out based off of an album announcement? smh

Not true, fans predict this is a disco album based off her vmas look, taylor dresses a certain way to give fans a hint on what the album theme is, here she looked very 80's so fans think it's disco, remember, lover was bright, to coincide with the album's happy aesthetic, reputation was dark and very pale, folklore was warm and cozy, giving us the knowledge it was indie pop (cardigan still deserved actual remixes), so yeah, track 5 might be a "all you had to do was stay" meets "delicate" moment, but defo no ballads if i'm correct
