Taylor Swift has been unveiled as the Global Ambassador for Record Store Day 2022.

15 years ago when the first Record Store Day took place, Taylor was just at the start of her career, on the cusp of releasing her second album Fearless. Now, both Record Store Day and Taylor have grown - Record Store Day is the largest single-day music event in the world and Taylor Swift is... well... Taylor Swift, an artist whose success has transcended genre and culture to become truly ubiquitous.

In the past, Taylor has helped to drop several special-edition releases for Record Store Day and Record Store Day Black Friday events, but now she takes centre-stage to become the first-ever Global Ambassador for Record Store Day.

“I’m very proud to be this year’s Ambassador for Record Store Day,” Taylor said in a statement. “The places where we go to browse and explore and discover music new and old have always been sacred to me.

"Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion.”

RSD co-founder Carrie Colliton says: “We’re pretty picky about the people we invite to “wear the sash”, and we always want to make sure those Ambassadors genuinely love record stores and are creative about ways to celebrate them. For our first Global Ambassador, we’re teaming up with a woman who does all that and just happens to be one of the biggest artists on the planet.”

Taylor has a great history of both supporting record stores and the physical music industry - the vinyl editions of Red (Taylor's Version), Evermore and Folklore were even three of the best-selling vinyl albums of 2021, and there will also be news about a special RSD 2022 release coming from Taylor in due course.

Record Store Day 2022 takes place this year April 23. You can find out more about Record Store Day and its first Global Ambassador at recordstoreday.co.uk. The full list will be announced soon.
