Taylor Swift has revealed she is releasing her 8th studio album, Folklore, tomorrow (24 July).

Sharing the surprise announcement on social media Taylor posted, "Surprise 🤗 Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my 8th studio album, folklore; an entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into."

There will be 16 songs on the album's standard edition but a bonus track, The Lakes, will be available on physical deluxe editions. To mark her eighth album Taylor is releasing eight CDs and eight vinyls of the deluxe edition, available for just one week. Each edition will have "unique covers & photos".

She also shared that a music video for a new track titled Cardigan will go live tonight (23 July).

Taylor's previous four albums went straight to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, while she has two further Top 10s with Fearless (2009) and Speak Now (2010). See Taylor Swift's full Official Chart History here.

While the album will certainly be yet another number 1, I do think she is being a bit greedy releasing 8 different cds and vinyls, basically 16 versions. Diehard fans, and there's literally millions, are gonna bankrupt themselves to get every one, especially if 15 versions are only out for a week. It would be better to have one cd and vinyl released per week so younger fans could save up each week, I don't think she has grasped the financial difficulties many have at the moment and can't afford to pay out £300+ on music in one week.

Rant over.

Yeah true, 16 versions is a bit extreme.

To be honest, I think she just released that many versions so fans had a choice in which CD or vinyl they wanted.

I seriously doubt that Taylor is expecting her fans to actually buy all 16 of them (except the ones who are incredibly rich!).

Nah, it's probably trying to sell more copies. That's just how the US music industry is.

I think if that was the case, now is probably the most ineffective time ever to attempt a marketing tactic like that.

True. It still works though sadly, proven by TROLLZ.

It was probably mostly her labels fault though, this seems like a passion project.

Haha, yeah, but Taylor has way more respect for her fans than 6ix9ine ever would! :P

Yeah true, still works as an example though.

I guess. Like you said, it's more down to the way the US music market works, if anything! :P

So we’re getting on the same day: NOW 106, Logic’s last album and this. July 24 is gonna be a mint day for music!

Can’t wait for the new Taylor album, I like a lot of her stuff. :)

By far the best surprise of 2020 so far! :D

I still can’t believe this is happening, but as a Swiftie from the beginning, it’s like Christmas Eve has arrived early, haha.

I’m not sure I have the words to express my level of excitement just yet! <3
