Taylor Swift announces ninth studio album Evermore

Taylor Swift has announced that she is releasing a brand new album titled Evermore, tomorrow, Friday December 11.

The US superstar surprised fans this summer when she revealed her eighth studio album Folklore the day before it was released. Now she's done it again, confirming that Evermore - described as Folklore's "sister album" - is coming out less than 24 hours after its unveiling.

The music video for Evermore's lead single Willow will released alongside the album. Evermore's digital edition features 15 songs, with the upcoming physical edition featuring two bonus tracks. The CD version is released December 18, 2020, with the cassette arriving on February 12, 2021 and the vinyl coming May 28, 2021. 

"I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern," Taylor announced on social media. "It’s called evermore.

"To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in."

Taylor continued: "I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning.

"I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them."

Folklore's key collaborators Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff and Bon Iver's Justin Vernon are all returning on Evermore, as is Taylor's partner Joe Alwyn, who appeared on the album as a writer under the pseudonym William Bowery. Taylor also promised "some new (and longtime) friends to our musical kitchen table this time around..." who are the entirety of Dessner's band The National, and sister trio HAIM.

Folklore debuted at Number 1 on the UK's Official Albums Chart in July, and is the longest-reigning Number 1 album of 2020 so far. Lead single Cardigan and album tracks Exile and The 1 all reached the Top 10 of the Official Singles Chart.

Taylor also recently confirmed that she is re-recording her first six albums following the sales of their masters from Taylor's former label Big Machine to music manager Scooter Braun, who has signed sold them on to private equity firm Shamrock Capital for $300 million.
