Stormzy predicts how many copies of ÷ Ed Sheeran will sell in its first week: Interview
Last Friday (March 3), Stormzy made history when his debut album Gang Signs & Prayer went straight in at Number 1, becoming the first pure Grime album to hit the top spot.
In the process, GSAP scored the most first week streams ever recorded for an album, while all of the album's tracks impacted the Official Singles Chart Top 100, making Stormzy the first UK artist to achieve that feat.
Fast forward to this week, and Stormzy's new BFF Ed Sheeran may just break those very same records once again; Ed's third studio LP ÷ is smashing records on all formats and was closing in on 500,000 sales during Monday's midweek Chart Update. Even more impressive? All of ÷'s 16 tracks are expected to crack the Top 40!
To get the lowdown from one chart record-breaker about another, we sat down with Stormzy last week to get his thoughts on how many copies of ÷ Ed will sell in the first week. Watch above to see Stormzy get his Mystic Meg on and predict Ed's week 1 sales figure (spoiler: it's a mighty one)
Although Stormzy is very gracious in wishing Ed all the luck in the world, ÷ isn't quite a chart topping album just yet. Wait your turn Mr. Sheeran! Last week, we got Stormzy's thoughts on what a Number 1 record means for the Grime scene, and how he feels at being the first to do it.
Stormzy also shared his excitement at joining an exclusive chart club with just three other members - Justin Bieber, Beyoncé and The Weeknd - as well as wanting to secure his status as a bonafide artist, how important GSAP was to tell his story. Watch in full below:
