Following the tragic death of Whitney Houston this past Saturday (February 11), fans and celebrities have been paying tribute to the late star.

Dolly Parton, whose track I Will Always Love You was covered by Whitney 20 years ago this year, released a statement saying that she will “always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song,”

“And I can truly say from the bottom of my heart, Whitney, I will always love you. You will be missed."

“This is a sad day,” said Sir Elton John. “She was the most beautiful woman I think I ever saw. Thank you for giving us your talent, and one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard.”

Amy, Etta, Whitney – their music will never die,” said Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch. “What a great girl group in heaven.”

"Whitney was a beautiful person and a talent beyond compare," said Clive Davis, who signed Whitney to Arista Records label in the early ‘80s. "Simply put, Whitney would have wanted the music to go on and her family asked that we carry on."

During the course of her 28 year recording career, Whitney clocked up four UK Number 1 singles - 1985’s Saving All My Love For You, 1987’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me), 1988’s One Moment In Time, 1992’s I Will Always Love You - on the Official Singles Chart, and two UK Number 1 albums – 1987’s Whitney and 2000’s Whitney: The Greatest Hits - on the Official Albums Chart. 1992’s The Bodyguard Original Soundtrack – on which Whitney sang the lion’s share of the tracks – was Number 1 on the Official Compilations Chart for 11 weeks.

Unsurprisingly, Whitney’s most popular track was her cover of I Will Always Love You, which was the lead single from The Bodyguard OST. According to Official Charts Company's data, it was the biggest selling single of 1992 and the 10th biggest selling single of 1993, and has sold nearly 1.5 million copies in the UK to date.
