Record Store Day Unsigned has returned for 2022, giving one unsigned UK artist to chance to have their music pressed on vinyl - for free.

Releasing music on physical formats such as vinyl can be a daunting experience, especially for artists who haven't got the support of a record label or wider teams around them to shoulder what can be a very expensive process.

That's why Record Store Day, Sound Performance and Gigwise want to help kickstart the career of an independent UK artist, by giving them the chance to get their music pressed on to 500 vinyl records for free, courtesy of Sound Performance.

Submissions to this year's competition will be set before an expert panel of judges:

  • Alex Rice – Sports Team
  • Jessie Atkinson – Editor, Gigwise
  • Steve Courtnell – Owner, Pie and Vinyl Record Store
  • Chris Marksberry – Managing Director, Sound Performance
  • Sister Cookie – Previous RSD Unsigned Winner

Alex Rice of alt-rock band Sports Team says, "New music is in an incredible place at the moment. I’m really grateful for everything Record Store Day do, and I can’t wait to be one of the first people to hear the artists that will ultimately replace me.”

The competition returns for a fourth year, having been previously won by Sister CookieBarbudo and Heavy Rapids. The winners have gone onto to perform headline record store tours, secured slots at major festivals, secured press interviews in well-known music outlets as well as enjoying support on national radio stations such as BBC 6 Music.

To enter the competition, artists simply have to upload a one-minute video showcasing their music. You can upload your videos here.

Record Store Day Unsigned closes March 21st, submit your entry via  www.soundperformance.co.uk/submit.

Record Store Day returns for its 15th year on Saturday 23 April 2022.
