Spending a third non-consecutive week at Number 1, Pharrell Williams smashes through half-a-million sales in the UK with his latest single, Happy.
The British record buying public’s love affair with Pharrell Williams shows no signs of letting up anytime soon, as Happy spends its biggest week yet at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.
According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, nearly 118,000 copies of Happy have been purchased over the last seven days - its biggest weekly sales figure to date. The track has now smashed through the half-a-million mark.
Taken from the soundtrack to Universal Pictures’ computer-animated comedy Despicable Me 2, Happy made its Official Singles Chart debut at Number 71 at the end of November. It then shot into the Top 10 two weeks later, before reaching the top spot on December 28.
Timber by Pitbull and Ke$ha remains unmoved at Number 2, while Avicii’s Hey Brother (3) and Jason Derulo’s Trumpets (4) are also static.
This week’s highest new entry goes to Elyar Fox with Do It All Over Again (5). This is the debut Top 40 hit from the 18-year-old Londoner who has been dubbed ‘Britain’s answer to Justin Bieber’.
New Entries and High Climbers
Shakira and Rihanna claim this week’s second highest new entry with Can’t Remember To Forget You. The track is Shakira‘s 11th UK Top 40 hit since she made her debut with Whenever Wherever in 2002, and RiRi’s 39th since her first Official Singles Chart appearance in 2005 with Pon De Replay.
Tinie Tempah and Labrinth climb 15 places this week with Lover Not A Fighter (27), while Beyonce’s XO is up eight places to makes its Top 40 debut at 37.
