Now That’s What I Call Music! 83 has become the fastest selling album of 2012.

According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, the latest instalment of the hugely successful Now! franchise has sold a staggering 295,000 copies since it went on sale on Monday (November 19).

The 43-track album, which boasts 12 Official Number 1s (including Psy’s Gangnam Style, Robbie Williams Candy, Little Mix’s Wings, Rita Ora’s How We Do (Party), and Labrinth FT Emeli Sande’s Beneath Your Beautiful) has beaten the record set by its predecessor and current titleholder, Now! 82, which sold 267,000 copies during its first week on sale back in July.

To put that in perspective, Now That’s What I Call Music! 83 has sold nearly twice as many copies at the fastest selling artist album of 2012 so far, Mumford & Sons’ Babel, which sold 158,000 copies during its first week on sale.

Today Now! 83 debuts at Number 1 on the Official Compilation Albums Chart, knocking Pop Party 10 off the top spot.

This week’s Official Compilation Albums Chart Top 10 is as follows:

1 NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC 83
2 POP PARTY 10
3 ANTHEMS 90S
4 BBC RADIO 1'S LIVE LOUNGE 2012
