You can always rely on Nicki Minaj, can't you? If you've got a song that needs pepping up, or has a certain something missing, all you do is call up Nicki, and get her to lay down a verse for you. Not only that, but she always comes up with the goods as a lead artist too, with even a million-seller to her name.
In celebration of all things Onika, including the 25 Top 40 hits under her belt, we delve into the stars and count up the physical sales, downloads and streams to compile Nicki's all-time UK chart.
Let's look at some highlights:
Where Them Girls At
Nicki has always been happy to embrace different genres, and it was no exception when she lent her talents to this dance track by superstar DJ and producer David Guetta. It earned her first ever Top 5, hitting Number 3, and is her fifth biggest song altogether, racking up 528,000 sales and 8.2 million streams.
Possibly the first song that made people properly sit up and take notice of Nicki as a solo artist in the UK, this summer 2011 smash sent Nicki Top 10 by herself for the first time. Thanks in part to an adorable recreation of the song online by future icon Sophia Grace, Super Bass established Nicki as a mainstream star – albeit with an edge. It's her third biggest song in the UK overall, when you include streams, and her second biggest seller, with over 636,000 copies shifted. But Nicki wasn't done conquering the mainstream just yet…
It's safe to say nobody quite saw this coming, and while the word "banger" is overused these days, it certainly fits here. Starships, produced by RedOne, who was finding huge fame as Lady Gaga's favoured collaborator, was a monster hit in the UK. Peaking at 2 in 2012, it was Nicki Minaj's highest charting single (spoiler: at that time) and is her biggest seller. In fact, it's even joined the seven-digit club, passing the million-sales mark in July 2016. When you factor in the song's 14.1 million streams since we started counting in 2014, it's still Nicki's biggest song, but another track is closing in…
Finally, in 2014, Nicki got the reward she'd been waiting for, when this all-star collaboration with Ariana Grande and Jessie J hit Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart. Bang Bang spent five months in the Top 40 and is Nicki's second biggest song overall in the UK. It's notched yup 50 million plays to land as Nicki's second most streamed track and it's 550,000 sales put it in Nicki's all-time sales Top 3.
A controversial track with an unforgettable video, Anaconda was the catalyst for a few high-profile feuds, including Nicki taking on Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. With 193,000 sales and 13.5 million streams, it edges into Nicki's Top 10.
Side To Side
Nicki's most recent smash, and a reunion with Ariana Grande, Side To Side rode its "dick bicycle" all the way to Number 4 earlier this year and, in the process, into Nicki's all-time Top 5. Side By Side doesn't make Nicki's Top 10 best sellers, but when it comes to streams, it's the Number 1, wiht an impressive 56 million plays to its name.
