Takeoff, a member of the rap trio Migos, has reportedly died aged 28 after a shooting in Houston.

According to reports, Takeoff was present with fellow Migos bandmate Quavo, playing cards at a bowling alley in Houston, when he was fatally shot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, with two others shot and taken to hospital. Quavo remains unharmed.

The rapper, real name  Kirshnik Khari Ball, was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia in 1994. He first linked up with Quavo and Offset - his uncle and cousin respectively, in 2008. In 2011, they released their first mixtape as Migos.

Migos' breakout hit was 2013 track Versace, which gained wider attention after it was remixed by Drake. In terms of legacy, it helped to popularise the rap trio's rapid-fire cadence, with the flow of each Migos member being instantly recogniseable.

As a member of Migos, Takeoff gained one UK Top 10 single in 2017 with Calvin Harris and Frank Ocean collaboration Slide and achieved two Top 10s on the UK Official Albums Chart with 2018's CULTURE II and 2021's CULTURE III. See all of Migos' hit songs and albums.

Outside the UK, Migos were best-known for their hit Bad & Boujee (which hit Number 1 in the US), as well as collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.

Takeoff released one solo album, The Last Rocket, in 2018 and had recently released a collaborative album with Quavo, Only Built For Infinity Links.

This is a developing story. More to follow.

this is absolutely horrendous. migos made some bangers and there was no outdoing, no outrapping, they were all equally great. takeoff was no different and the fact this happened not long after the infinity links album release is shocking.

you would also think that the message of needing tighter gun laws would’ve gotten through to the politicians in america, but apparently not. the country is getting so much worse.

it’s not fair man. it’s just not fair. rest in peace, takeoff, my heart goes out to his family, his fans, and offset and quavo 🧡
