Spotify has revealed their most streamed Christmas songs worldwide and there are some surprises on the list

Topping things off is Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You. Mariah's festive classic, which recently matched its chart peak from 1994 by hitting Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart, was, in fact, the most popular song in every country apart from Denmark and Iceland.

Chasing Mariah's tail is Wham! with Last Christmas, a song that currently holds the record for the biggest selling Number 2 single EVER on the Official Singles Chart. As the race for Christmas Number 1 hots up, a social media campaign has been launched in a bid to finally get the song to the top spot.

Rounding out the top three of Spotify's list is Christmas crooner Michael Bublé with his version of It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas. Interestingly, new holiday outings by Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande have also proved popular on Spotify, with Justin's Misletoe and Ariana's Santa Tell Me making up the rest of the top five most streamed songs.

Due to Mariah Carey's ubiquity around the world, Spotify also decided to play around and share which Christmas songs were most distinctive to each country.

In the United Kingdom, it seems that we have a preferencce for Bob B. Soxx & The Blue Jeans' Here Comes Santa Claus, taken from Phil Spector's holiday album A Christmas Gift For You. In fact, the UK came seventh in terms of which country listens to the most Christmas music, with Iceland leading the way when it comes to festive cheer.

Using their demographics, Spotify also found that older music fans were more likely to listen to Christmas music than younger fans, and they also broke down which track each age group favours. See the list below.

13-17: Why Don’t We – Hey Good Lookin
18-24: Justin Bieber – Mistletoe
25-29: DMX – Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer
30-34: The Drifters – White Christmas
