ABBA once said the winner takes it all, and they’ve certainly proven that on this week’s Official Irish Albums Chart.

The new Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again Cast Recording takes the top spot this week, up five places following the film’s worldwide release last Friday.

The album features ABBA classics performed by the cast, including Cher’s take on Fernando, and My Love, My Life by Meryl Streep.

The producer of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again Judy Craymer told OfficialCharts.com: "It is fantastic news that the soundtrack to Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again has gone to Number 1. It’s the celebration of our wonderful cast featuring Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Colin Firth, Andy Garcia, Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters and Meryl Streep - and of course Cher, singing Fernando."

It leads three Mamma Mia/ABBA albums in this week’s chart; the original 2008 soundtrack zooms 13 places to Number 7, and ABBA Gold – Greatest Hits lifts 11 spots to re-enter the Top 10 at Number 8.

Elsewhere, three Irish acts scale this week’s chart: alt-rock band Walking On Cars re-enter at 42 with their 2016 album Everything This Way following their recent performance at the Galway International Arts Festival, Westmeath-born band The Academic are back at 45 with Tales From The Backseat, and Hozier’s self-title debut rounds out this week’s Top 50.

Finally, the landmark 100th edition of Now That's What I Call Music charges straight in at Number 1 on the Official Irish Compilations Chart, and becomes Ireland's fastest-selling album of 2018 so far. Check out this week's Top 10 in full.
