Lyra is to release her new single later this week.

New Day is to be released via Universal Music Ireland on Friday September 4, and marks the artist from Cork's first single since last September's Mother, and first release of 2020. Lyra took to social media last month to confirm that a music video was also in the works.

New Day is a cover of British guitarist Jackie Lomax's 1969 song of the same name, which Lyra has given her own haunting interpretation of. Lyra's version originally soundtracked a TV advert for VanMoof electric bikes in June, but she has now decided to give it the full single treatment after fan reaction. Listen to a preview below.

While New Day marks her first headline release of 2020, Lyra has still impacted the Irish Charts this year. She was one of 39 female artists in Irish Women in Harmony, who came together to release a cover of The Cranberries' Dreams for SAFE Ireland. Dreams is Ireland's most downloaded song of 2020 to date by an Irish act and reached Number 1 on the Official Irish Homegrown Chart.

One of Lyra's previous singles Falling was nominated for Song of the Year at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize earlier this year, plus she took part in the recent TV specials Songs From An Empty Room on RTÉ Two and Virgin Media One's Concert 4 Cancer last weekend.
