Little Mix storm ahead on the Official Singles Chart Update

X Factor 2011 winners Little Mix make their debut entrance in today’s Official Chart Update at the top of the tree.

Fresh from the reality television show’s glittering climax at Wembley Arena last weekend, Perrie, Jesy, Leigh-Anne and Jade’s cover of 'Cannonball' has stormed into the lead on the Official Singles Update. The four-piece girlband, who are the first group act to win the show, are also on course to take the Damien Rice track to its highest ever chart position, having previously peaked at Number 9 in September of this year thanks to its exposure in the audition rounds of X Factor, performed by 23 year old Welsh maths teacher John Adams. The original Damien Rice version of the track was first released back in 2003, peaking at Number 32, and climbing to Number 19 upon its re-release the following year. Today’s Official Singles Chart Update sees the Damien Rice version of 'Cannonball' re-entering the Top 20 once again at Number 12.

Coldplay are seeing a boost today with single 'Paradise' climbing five places to Number 2 after the band’s epic performance in front of the 10,000 strong live audience at the X Factor final on Sunday night, and a TV audience of 13 million. Come Sunday, this would give Chris Martin and co their sixth Top 5 single.

Similarly, Leona Lewis’s cover of 'Hurt', originally written and recorded by Nine Inch Nails and later covered by Johnny Cash, enters today at Number 3, this would give her a 7th Top 5 single. The track is taken from Leona’s new EP which also contains covers of the Goo Goo Dolls’ 'Iris' and 'Colourblind' by Counting Crows.

The highest climber on today’s Update is En Vogue’s 'Don’t Let Go (Love)', as performed by Little Mix at the X Factor final.
