The Official Chart: First Look, on BBC Radio 1 from 6pm – 7pm every Sunday, offers a first glance of the Top 20 ahead of Friday’s Official Singles Chart Top 100. The chart is based on preliminary sales and early streaming reports.

Here's how the week is shaping up so far.

Lewis Capaldi is in pole position to claim his second UK Number 1 single this week. Before You Go rises 5-1 based on chart sales across the weekend, following the release of the song’s official music video.

The Weeknd is on track to reach Number 2 with Blinding Lights, which would match his career peak in the UK achieved by 2016’s Starboy ft. Daft Punk.

Woah... I didn't think 'Before You Go' would stick around long enough to go to #1 now, but I certainly wouldn't complain if it somehow did (it's more consistency than standing out on any particular platform at this point).

'Blinding Lights' moving up to second to tie 'Starboy' for The Weeknd's highest charting song to date is amazing news though & probably my highlight of this chart update so far! :)

Not surprised to see three J Hus songs in the Top 20, although I haven't heard them yet, but we'll see how much I like them on Friday.

I really enjoy 'Blinding Lights' moving to number 2 in this chart. I really don't get why 'Before You Go' is at number 1. I generally dislike ballads or other slower-paced songs, but whereas I found Someone You Loved just boring, this song gets on my nerves.

I know it’s nothing major but I really love how even though sadly lose control didn’t reach the top 10, almost 5 months after its release it’s still hanging about in the top 20!

impressive isn't it that song it's a killer especially the intro to the beat

Yeah, I'm amazed how long it's been able to avoid ACR for! :D

At this rate, I honestly think we could see it in the Top 40 of the Chart Of The Year for 2020.

I actually have a soft spot for these kind of ballads, but yeah, 'Someone You Loved' is definitely the better of the two! I'm still happy that Lewis Capaldi is set for a second #1 single though.

'Blinding Lights' really deserves to go to #1 here, but at least it's on course to become The Weeknd's biggest song in the UK regardless! :D

Do u think??? Because of all the controversy over dance monkey being number 1 but not number 1 and someone you loved still in the top 10 lose control has very much so gone under the radar but sales wise it’s very slowly falling and still avoiding acr! (Which needs to get scrapped btw)

Honestly it’s my go to single still when it comes to the weekend and pres before clubbing 😂 I’m seeing becky hill in April and am SO excited!

Oh yeah, ACR should never have been a thing to begin with! :/

As I mentioned to Coolocelot a few days ago, 'Dance Monkey' could very well have been close to Bryan Adams' record by now if ACR wasn't a thing.

Awesome! :)

Hopefully 'Better Off Without You' can reach the Top 40 in the next few weeks too.

I really hope when it comes to June and they update the chart rules again it gets scrapped because it’s beyond a farce. It stopped old town road going back to number 1 after I think it was 8 weeks at number 2 which would of surely been a record broken! But if lose control made the 2020 chart of the year I would very much so not be against that at all! I’m seeing becky hill live in April and a SO excited ! Wonder how long lose control can stay in the top 40! Hopefully it stays in the top 20 again cuz it really deserved to hit the top 10

Yeah, ACR has literally robbed so many songs of #1! 'Old Town Road' was clearly more popular than a two-week #1 song, while 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' was unfairly blocked just because it's an older classic (there was also a YouTube issue in that chart too that never got resolved) & as an earlier example, 'Wild Thoughts' being an "official" #1, when 'Despacito' was #1 on both sales & streaming for that week.

What's your favourite Becky Hill song then? Mine's still 'False Alarm' with Matoma! :D

R

For sure! Really like that song

I remember that when ACR first started it had a good 100,000 sales despacito and was at number 2! And let’s not even start on the Christmas debate 😂. I wonder what would be number 1 now if ACR wasn’t a thing as dance monkey Is still number 2 on the sales chart!

She’s done so many tunes! But Back & Forth which I will forever be upset about not hitting the top 10 is my favourite song of all time :D
False alarm & I could get use to this are definitely her most underrated songs!
Have u heard changing by her? It’s a song that come out a month or 2 ago off her album and it’s amazing!

Hi Piran!
I would never think that "Before You Go" would probably be the next #1 single on Friday, but at least it's because of the video.
Great to see "Blinding Lights" closely to the #1, hopefully it could be the new #1 someday!
Not heard J Hus's album yet, so no comment there.
Sorry for commenting so late, I just heard the news about Kobe Bryant and had to check the news as well about it, kinda sad what happened to him. (Kind of, not relevant to the chart, but still it's shocking for me as a sports fan)

Piran

Hey Sergej! :)

Yeah, I didn't think the video would've given it much of a boost (given that the UK charts weaken free streams in comparison to paid ones), but that just shows you how close it's been to #1 over hte past few weeks.

I don't know about 'Blinding Lights' going to #1 in the future in the UK, but like you, I really hope it does!

That's fine! While I don't follow basketball much at all, I'm aware that Kobe Bryant was a legend in that sport & it's very sad to hear what happened to him earlier today.

Another thing with ACR is that it means we'll never get a song challenge Bryan Adams (or even Ed Sheeran or Drake) unless OCC revise their chart rules soon like you said.

At least she got a #1 hit with Oliver Heldens on 'Gecko [Overdrive]' back in 2014! :)

I haven't yet, but I'll be sure to check it out!

It is silly and hopefully it is changed soon as u said!
And make sure u do because it’s a really good underrated song!!

What is ACR?

It stands for "Accelerated Chart Ratio".

This is where if a song has been on the singles chart for at least 10 weeks & declined in performance more than the musical market has for three consecutive weeks, then the value of its streams are halved (often resulting in drops on the singles chart).
