The California superstar’s third album surged ahead of James Blunt’s Moon Landing to give Katy Perry her second chart-topper, while Andrea Begley gets highest ever chart placing by a Voice UK contestant.

Despite stiff competition from British singer-songwriter James Blunt, Katy Perry’s Prism has debuted at the top of the Official Albums Chart.

Following on from the success of Katy’s chart-topping single Roar, its parent album Prism outsold its nearest rival, James Blunt’s Moon Landing, by almost 12,000 copies.

Prism is the second Katy Perry album to hit Number 1. Her last album Teenage Dream spent a week there in 2010.

James Blunt enjoys his fourth Top 5 album with Moon Landing. His first two albums, Back To Bedlam and All The Lost Souls were both Number 1s on the Official Albums Chart, the first spending ten weeks at the top before going on to become one of the UK’s biggest selling albums of all time.

Tribute, last week’s Number 1 album from John Newman, slips two places to Number 3. Arctic Monkeys climb back up two places to Number 4 with latest release AM, and Italian opera star Andrea Bocelli scores his eighth Top 10 album with Love In Portofino new at Number 5.

New Entries and High Climbers

Alongside new entries from Katy Perry (1), James Blunt (2) and Andrea Bocelli (5), there are three more albums debuting in the Top 40 this week.

The Voice UK 2013 winner Andrea Begley secures not only her first Top 10 album but also the highest ever chart position from a Voice UK contestant. Andrea’s debut album The Message goes straight in at Number 7 this week.
