Katy Perry evicts Gotye from the Number 1 spot

Katy Perry today puts an end to Gotye’s four week consecutive run at the top of the Official Singles Chart by flying straight in to the Number 1 spot with new track, Part Of Me.

The US singer who recently split from husband Russell Brand, has been in the UK this week promoting the new single which is taken from the forthcoming Complete Confection edition of her 2010 album Teenage DreamPart Of Me is Katy’s third UK Number 1 and ninth Top 10 hit, and leads today’s singles charge by 12,000 copies, ahead of Sean Paul’s She Doesn’t Mind (2) while Gotye FT Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know slips to Number 3.

New Entries

The week’s second highest new entry comes courtesy of Jamaican singer Sean Paul whose new single, She Doesn’t Mind, debuts at Number 2. The track is taken from his fifth studio album, Tomahawk Technique, which is set for release on April 2.

Labrinth claims his third Top 5 single with new track Last Time. The Hackney-born producer and songwriter, who debuted at Number 2 with Earthquake FT Tinie Tempah, in October of last year, lands a Number 3 today, while JLS also score a Top 10 entry with their Sport Relief charity single, Proud (6).

Surrey rockers You Me At Six complete today’s Official Singles Chart Top 40 new entries with rollercoaster-inspired new single, The Swarm (23). 

The week’s highest climber is Florence & The Machine’s Shake It Out, climbing 52 places to 35, while the controversial Azealia Banks 212 ascends four places to bag its highest chart position to date, breaking into the Top 20 (20).
