Kanye West's The Life Of Pablo is the first streaming-only album to achieve one million equivalent units in America

The rapper's latest record has racked up huge numbers in the US.

Kanye West's The Life Of Pablo album has today reached a landmark achievement (April 5) by becoming the first streaming-only album to achieve platinum certification for consumption of one million equivalent units.

The record, released on streaming services in February 2016, has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Its worldwide streaming figure currently stands at 3 billion.

The rapper's latest record made history when it became the first streaming-only album to reach Number 1 on the US Billboard album chart, becoming his seventh chart-topper in the country.

On the UK's Official Albums Chart, The Life Of Pablo didn't chart until May due to rules stating streaming-only albums were ineligible to chart. The record entered at Number 30 and has since been certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

The Life Of Pablo includes the Top 40 single Famous, as well as Father Stretch My Hands Pt 1, Waves and Real Friends. 

To date, Kanye has notched up four Top 10 albums in the UK, two of which have reached Number 1: 2007's Graduation and 2013's Yeezus.

Meanwhile, it was recently announced that Spotify has agreed a deal with Universal Music Group to window releases on its premium service, meaning new albums could be on the service for as little as two weeks only.
