Kanye West scores Number 1 album with Yeezus

Praise the loud! Yeezus goes straight in at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart, while Dublin's Kodaline debut in the Top 5.

After welcoming his new daughter, North, to the world last weekend, Kanye West has more cause for more celebrations this today after discovering that his new album, Yeezus, has gone straight in at Number 1 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart!

The follow-up to his critically acclaimed collaboration with Jay-ZWatch The Throne, was produced by Rick Rubin (Beastie BoysPublic EnemyRun DMC) and features guest appearances from Daft Punk, Frank OceanKid CudiCharlie Wilson, and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon among others.

Yeezus is West’s first Number 1 album in the UK since 2007’s Graduation, and fourth Official Top 10 album over-all.

Last week’s chart topper, 13 by Black Sabbath, is down one place to Number 2, while Dublin’s Kodaline -who had been leading the race to Number 1 on Wednesday’s Official Chart Update - are new in at Number 3 today with their debut album, In A Perfect World.

This week’s Official Albums Chart Top 5 is completed by Rod Stewart’s Time (4) and Passenger’s All The Little Lights (5).

New Releases

Jay-Z protégé J. Cole scores his highest charting album to date with Born Sinner, which is new in at Number 7 today. Cole’s debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, peaked at Number 25 on the Official Albums Chart back in 2011.

Meanwhile, Sigur Rós’ clock up their third UK Top 10 album with Kveikur (9). It is the Icelandic band’s first release for XL Recordings (AdeleBasement JaxxThe xx).

This week’s new entries are completed by award-winning composer Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack to the new Superman film, Man Of Steel (20), and Hayley Westenra’s new collection of traditional lullabies and mellow musical songs, Hushabye, at Number 35.
