Hip-hop superstar could win his first Number 1 album since 2007’s Graduation.

It looks like new dad Kanye West could have double reason to celebrate this week, as his latest album Yeezus has taken the lead in the race to be Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.

Earlier this week, OfficialCharts.com reported it was a close race between the Touch The Sky hitmaker and Dublin rockers Kodaline after just 24 hours on sale, with Kanye trailing the Irish band’s debut In A Perfect World by just 1,800 copies.

Now, however, it’s all change at the top, as Kanye has nosed out in front by over 2,000 copies. If Kanye does manage to make Number 1, it will be his first chart-topping album since 2007, when Graduation spent just one week at the summit. His last 2 albums, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch The Throne, peaked at Number 16 and Number 3 respectively, so Kanye is already likely to better his last long-player’s chart position.

Kanye has come a long way since his first album, The College Dropout, was released in 2004 – it peaked at Number 12.

It ain’t over 'til it’s over, of course, and there’s every chance the lead for Official Albums Chart Number 1 could change again before midnight on Saturday. Will it be Kodaline or Kanye enjoying the top spot?

The results will be announced live on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart Show with Jameela Jamil from 4–7pm on Sunday, with the Official Albums Chart Top 100 available right here on OfficialCharts.com from 7pm.
