As part of the 60th birthday celebrations of the Official Singles Chart, JLS look back at their chart success and reveal the first singles they ever bought!

With 11 Top 20 singles (including five Number 1s) JLS are one of THE most successful singles acts to emerge from the X Factor.

The London-based quartet - Oritse Williams, Marvin Humes, J.B. Gill and Aston Merrygold – released their first single, Beat Again, in July 2009. It debuted at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart and sold an impressive 106,000 copies in its first week on sale, and it has sold over 555,000 copies to date.

“We were travelling back from a gig listening to Reggie Yates on Radio 1,” remembers Marvin. “It felt incredible hearing him countdown from Number 40 to Number 2, and our song hadn’t been played yet. We had a massive party that night – I think we partied the whole week to be honest!”

“We’ve had five Number 1 singles and five MOBO Awards, and it feels amazing to have had the support from our fans since the day we appeared on your television screens, all the way ‘til now,” adds Oritse. “You have made our dreams come true. Five is a good number, let's make it six!”
