Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo's Savage Love claims Number 1 on Official Trending Chart

New Zealander Jawsh 685 has seen his track go from TikTok viral sensation to Official Chart hit.

Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo fly to the top of the Official Trending Chart with their collaboration Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat).

The original track Laxed (Siren Beat) by 17-year-old New Zealand musician Jawsh 685 - real name Joshua Nanai – features a New Zealand/Pacific Islands trend of creating beats to play through siren speakers. Joshua also shouts out the calling code for Samoa - 685 - during the song in reference to his Samoan and Cook Island heritage. This nod to his heritage encouraged many users to celebrate their own cultures against the backdrop of the song.

As the track grew in popularity through viral dances it caught the attention of Jason Derulo, who wanted to use it for his own song. After much back and forth to discuss how both artists would each be credited, the official collaboration was released on June 12. On the latest midweek Official Singles Chart it leaps from Number 22 to Number 4, landing it comfortably at the top of the Official Trending Chart.

This week’s Official Trending Chart also features lots of brand-new entries, including Burning by M Huncho & Dutchavelli – currently set for a Top 20 debut on the singles chart. UK rapper Potter Payper’s 2020 Vision Freestyle could land in this week’s Top 40 – his first charting hit.

Beyonce returns with Black Parade, a surprise release featuring lyrics on her heritage, Black history, police brutality and the recent Black Lives Matter protests. It was released on Juneteenth, a holiday marking the official end of slavery in the US. Proceeds of the song will go to Black-owned small businesses.

Finally, Marshmello & Halsey are up nine places midweek with Be Kind, potentially hitting a new peak at Number 30, and Hosh & 1979’s Midnight (The Hanging Tree) ft. Jalia is trending as it sets course to make its Top 40 debut this Friday.
