James Arthur's Impossible unmoved from top of Official Singles Chart

James Arthur resists a midweek challenge from Will.I.Am and Britney Spears to retain his place on the Official Singles Chart throne for a third week today.

On Wednesday’s Official Chart Update, Will.I.Am and Britney’s Scream And Shout (2) was trailing X Factor winner James Arthur's Impossible by just 3,000 copies, but as the week progressed James Arthur managed to pull away from the US pop collaborators to finish over 6,000 copies ahead.

Impossible is heading at lightning pace towards the hallowed million sales milestone, with current sales standing at nearly 971,000 copies after just four weeks on sale.

Psy’s Gangnam Style, which was announced as the sixth biggest selling single of 2012,holds firm at Number 3 in its 17th week in the Official Singles Chart Top 40, while Bruno MarsLocked Out Of Heaven climbs two places to Number 4. The Top 5 is completed by Taylor Swift’s I Knew You Were Trouble.

Re-entries and high climbers

Calvin Harris FT Tinie Tempah’s Drinking From The Bottle is up 28 places to re-enter the Official Singles Chart Top 40 at Number 15. The duo performed the track on the New Year’s Eve edition of Top Of The Pops.

Florence And The Machine’s Spectrum (35) is also up 16 places with DJ Fresh’s Gold Dust climbing 12 places to 22.
